Perilla seed oil (INCI: Perilla ocymoides seed oil) has one of the highest contents of omega-3 (alpha-linolenic) acid among plant oils. . Perilla oil contains approx. 61% alpha-linolenic acid, 15% linoleic, 15% oleic, 7% palmitic and 2% stearic acid. It contains high concentrations of tocopherol, mainly gamma-tocopherol (>5000 ppm gamma- tocopherol, 570 ppm alpha-tocopherol) and sterols (>600 ppm beta-sitosterol). . Perilla oil has a light skin feel and absorbs very rapidly into skin without leaving any greasiness. It smells a little bit like salad and although much loved by some natural formulators, it is not everybody’s favourite and you might want to mask its fragrance. Perilla seed oil is a heat sensitive oil and we recommend its application in cold process emulsions or during cool down of your emulsions. . Have you ever worked with perilla seed oil?
