#5 Court Mantua in National Museum

Materials: Silk, Gilt Metal and Linen

In the 18th century, women would wear this style of open fronted mantua, a large dress with a train and matching petticoat. This was worn over 7 other layers.

Dress Order:

Corset (the museum recreated one as firm as the original one by replicating it with acrylic)

Garter/Stockings

Chemise (normally made of cotton as it was easier to wash)

Stomacher (which were normally boned and then placed over the stomach)

Stays (this was also boned and created a body shape which was fashionable at the time; a cinched waist with a flat chest)

Bodice

Petticoat

Mantua

What I Liked:

The incorporation of gold running through the fabric is really eye catching and makes the piece seem very regal and elegant - which was the main form of communicating your status and social class.

What I Disliked: 

It’s hard to find a fault on a period piece of clothing because everything that I dislike is from the time that deemed it appropriate.

There was also the cutest girl there, dark hair. Cute and so tiny. (^ ₩ ^ ) she had dressed for dickens and was in the women's votes march!! I'm smitten by someone I'll never meet again. Such is my life. LOL
