What Our Bones Are Made Of

1. Periosteum

the fibrous membrane which coats the outside of the bone

this membrane is rich with blood vessels and nerve endings

it ends at the end of the joint area or where ligaments and tendons insert themselves

2. Endosteum

a microscopic membrane underneath the periosteum

coats the outer layer of compact bone tissue

extremely strong membrane

3. Connective Tissue impregnated with hardening substances such as calcium and phosphorous.

4. Spongy Tissue

found on the inside of the bone
