Let's Have a Toast or Two...Or Ten
Sorority Myth #9: Sorority Girls are Perma-Drunk. Meaning they drink a lot of alcohol, all the time.
I like partying, I like drinking. Getting drunk every weekend is fun...when you’re first starting out...and I say that very, very loosely.
College is a time of experimentation, which could mean anything (some other topics will be discussed later), but as for drinking, there will come some sort of encounter where you are offered a drink by a girl friend or your crush or that creepy old guy in a fraternity that you are just nice to for some odd reason. You can:
Say no.
Take the drink and just slowly sip that and have a good time.
Drink the drink, take about 10 more and black out for the rest of the night.
The third choice seems like the most fun choice, right? I’d be a hypocrite and say that I’ve never done that, so yes, I have blacked out. And it is fun the first time around, but past that it just gets messy.
You probably already know, but drinking excessively is not safe. I’m not going to go into scare tactics about how unsafe alcohol is, because this is a sorority blog, not a health class.
I will tell you that you don’t have to drink excessively to be in a sorority. In fact, you don’t have to drink at all. You can have fun without drinking yourself silly every night you go out with girls. Some people actually find it really awesome that you can have a good time without drinking so much. And it keeps up the reputation that sorority girls keep their composure in every situation.
Point blank, drinking is okay if you’re of age, but don’t go around getting sloshed all the time because 1) it’s not safe for you, 2) it’s not healthy and 3) there’s no good reason to be considered the campus drunk.
So take drinking at parties with a grain of salt. Unless it’s a margarita, then take it with a rim of salt.
xoxo,
SLAM
