CIM Out & About: CIM Alumnus Dean Woods to play at Presidential Inauguration, Jan. 21, 2013
Congratulations to CIM alumnus U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Dean Woods, bassoon, who is scheduled to perform during the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Parade on Monday afternoon, Jan. 21, 2013.
According to his hometown newspaper The Daily Citizen (Dalton, Ga.), Woods will play with the U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own," which he joined in 2000. The military band, founded in 1922, is considered the premier Army band--consisting of 99 members from other Army bands and is designed to provide music for official ceremonies and special events.
Woods is also currently principal bassoon of the Alexandria and the Fairfax Symphonies in Virginia and performs with the National Symphony. He plays guitar and mandolin in a group he started called "The Army Bluegrass Group," and his wife, Marlisa, is also in “Pershing’s Own.”
