Dragon’s Bride Snippet - Nino

Here’s another snippet from Dragon’s Bride feat. Nino this time around. It’s shorter than Félix’s, but he’s also not talking to an entity. I have almost everyone written up now that’s eligible for a part, but I’ll be looking over other characters again before posting anyway. Remember, donate to my ko-fi for updates! Prince’s Knight

Nino’s life was not what he dreamed, but he could support his family this way. And honestly, it could be worse. When he had raised rank to become Prince Adrien’s personal guard, he didn’t know what he expected of the younger son. After all, Prince Félix could leave quite an impression.

Adrien was his best friend - informal, but it was the truth.

It would’ve been hard not to be befriended by him what with his kind personality and warmth just drawing one in. He took so much after the Queen, he could’ve been blinded by such radiance.

There was no way to describe the loss when the Queen took ill and then… passed. Nino did his best to aid his Prince, but there was little more he could do but be there as the King upended everything, even raising his hand at both sons. Prince Félix grew worryingly distant while Prince Adrien just sunk into irreversible despair and the kingdom fell along. Nino was not spared, but would remain by the Prince’s - no, by his friend’s side - for as long as he could.

And in one moment, he lost everything as the dragon soared away.

The tavern he played at now was somber as the day Prince Adrien was taken. Every so often, monsters roamed the streets and another person disappeared into the King’s dungeon, but little could be done to stop it. Worse was the cat creature; not even the King’s personal guard could contest the demon that would come and go as it pleased.

What had happened to this once bountiful kingdom? Nino played in mourning of those memories of days gone.

“Hey, you…”

He stopped his strumming and looked up, meeting the amber eyes of a young woman he had never encountered before. Wait, she wasn’t from this kingdom. And when had she entered the tavern?

“Do you have a request?” he asked, plucking gently at a few strings to keep some music going. His brows furrowed when she smirked.

“Yeah I do. I need Sir Nino, Prince Adrien’s personal guard.”

“He’s not here… hasn’t been here for months.”

Why did that not make her smirk fade?

“Well, if you could tell the missing Knight we’re going after a certain dragon, that’d be great.”

His fingers stopped once again and his eyes grew wide. He saw the woman grinning wider. The dragon… could Adrien be saved?
