Stitches are out and I'm allowed to walk again!
Another birthday has arrived. The idea that I am positively ancient compared to the average user of this site is further reinforced.
My relationship with this day has been... Difficult for a very long time now. Even more so in the last few years, as it represents the start of a very difficult month for me.
But, what if I take the day back? If, instead of looking forward with dread I take one little pocket of respite? There will be time starting tomorrow to mourn all that I've lost in Octobers past. But, today? For this one day I will celebrate the fact that I'm still here. That I made it one more time around the sun. There is still air in my lungs and determination in my heart. Let's keep going, friends.
