A close up from my poem series called Change
Looking forwards to the finished product. Learning a lot, including that I should go from just drawing digitally straight away instead of drawing it by hand first.
Every one wanted to be us except us....
Memories of Scattered Pins: A personal piece on what makes my life a little lighter each day, involving my sister, one of my best friends and Wii Sports Resort and where it comes from.
'I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS GAME.' A shout from one of my best friends, throwing the Wii Remote to the couch, cursing his luck as he stalks out the room, half smiling at the exaggerative action and as we both know, half actually angry at having come some close. My sister, his girlfriend, smiles a little apologetically at his departure and exclaims that he did rather well. I smile and nod back and know quietly how stinging coming so close to an award in a video game can feel even if its made up and only has value when I give it such. When any of us do. But then again, that's just how it is with us. Somewhat.
It began a long time ago. Myself and the person who would become my friend Tom didn't know each other too well. We talked on occasion and that was alright, but gradually we grew more friendly due to my sister bringing him about every few days or so. He grew attached to her and she seemed happy with him so in many ways, I felt it best to try and be friendly as after all, anyone whose had a partner and had siblings knows what it's like having time with someone you care about and then notice your brother or sister sharpening the steak knife behind the bins outside. Odd and a case where parental advice might not help. But in this case, we both tried playing a few games we knew together. I invited him around one night and we played on my Playstation 2 together, one of the games being Star Wars Battlefront II. We had fun. We had a lot of fun. And so we played again. And again. And then get got Steam and we got games for one another to play and now, we come to today where both Let's Play together and consider ourselves idiotic, if firm friends.
My sister and I have a very different dynamic. I've always considered my sister Ruby someone who I can trust with how idiotic I am and more often then not understand I don't feel happy when I do it. She has tumblr as well and she's possibly one of the few people outside of the person I love the most who I'd spend time with trying to tell jokes all I could to make them laugh. I try that with all my family and my beloved girlfriend every time I see her because for me, making someone laugh is the ultimate reward. It's the big present, it's the feeling you get when you, as I've heard, ride a bike the first time. Or in my case, a tricycle. God, I've really got to get a tricycle. Anyway. Ruby and I have had conflicts of numerous proportions and also times of light if unsaid unity. She plays more games now. Not tonnes, but she plays games. I'd never have thought I'd have seen my own sister ask to watch me play Majora's Mask. For me, that was the equivalent of Michael Jordan actually having talked to Bugs Bunny. A big deal. We all have fun.
It's not meant to be a long article this one. He came back in the room, the reason he was so angry? He missed out on getting the One Hundred Pin Bowling's final stamp. It's a stamp for getting a strike or a spare on nearly every throw and he missed the penultimate one. We make mountains out of molehills. Well, more accurately, Everest out of molehills. On really bad days, Olympus Mons out of molehills. But enough about moles. We've all bonded over as I've said ridiculous moments of failing terribly at Wii Sports Resort, but not just that, at New Super Mario Bros, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Trauma Center: New Blood, a few. It's been fun. It's still fun. The whole point of this article is just a simple, honest, common sense encouragement. Go play games with your friends! If you have a game, if you have a friend or family member you care about but are worried you might not connect with them any more, have them soon laughing at how shitty you can platform in a Mario game. Something, where you can tangibly feel the connection you have to other people in the room. It's joyous, it's grand and it makes you understand that sometimes, you can be an idiot and find happiness among thieves of the same idiocy. I love my sister and my best friend is one of a kind. He may have had enough of that game.
I've certainly not. And I don't honestly think my sister, or he has either.
