How would you describe your key strengths or raw talents? How would you suggest someone else go about finding their own if they do not know where to start? Thank you.
My superpower is that I can turn thoughts into things.
By that I mean: I can take a very abstract idea or ambiguous concept, combine it with critical and relevant real-world knowledge, and then execute my strategy to bring it to life and make it a reality. Whether to achieve personal goals (academic, career, financial, fitness), help others achieve their own goals, or mobilize massive multi-billion dollar corporations to implement complex business strategies on a global scale– this is my key strength or raw talent. This is what I do for a living, it’s what I’ve built my career on, it’s how I’ve made my fortune, and I’m very good at it. Tell me what you want to achieve and I can secure the outcome for you.
To discover strengths and talents:
Ask yourself: “What can I do well with minimal effort?” This isn’t the same question as: “What do I enjoy doing?” You asked about discovering strengths and talents (what people are good at), not discovering interests (what people like doing). It’s possible to enjoy something and be very bad (lack talent) at it. Try many things and see which skills develop and progress faster with less effort than others. For example, I’m better at math than I am in foreign languages. I’ve aced math exams after 30 minutes of studying but I’ve taken 2 years of French and still only know the word for baguette (spoiler alert: the French word for baguette is baguette). See what comes naturally and go from there.
Ask yourself: “What do people turn to me for?” I’d observe the natural role you play in a group of people. Social roles tend to emerge based on personal strengths and group needs in a group setting. For example, the friend in the group who’s great at organizing social events tends to be the one that others turn to for this purpose. It’s very rare that the flaky friend who’s bad at organizing events would be the one asked to organize events. If you’re that person who friends, family, and colleagues naturally turn to for a particular skill or talent, then that’s a sign.
