Thanks so much! I probably haven't done one of these in almost a decade so this was fun!
15. what’s a question do you constantly get asked?
It doesn't happen quite as much anymore but I would often get asked if I dye my hair. I have medium brown hair and in certain light it has really rich red highlights. My hair has darkened with age but you can still see it sometimes. I wish it was as much as it used to be.
18. rant about your favorite musician
Oh this is tough. My favorite musical acts, in no particular order, are Alvvays, The Beatles, Daft Punk, Kero Kero Bonito, Paramore, Earl Sweatshirt, and Magdalena Bay, I think? Top top favorite, and specifically one person, might be tricky to decide upon. I'll talk about a few:
Paul McCartney
I was thinking about how much I've come to like him over the last decade just this afternoon actually. Always been a big Beatles guy but I think I've cemented myself as a Paul fan. Certainly had a tendency to make some goofy stuff from time to time, and I haven't loved TOO much of his work for some time, but I really appreciate his effort to experiment and not take himself too seriously, despite having written some of the most recognizable songs of all time. Seems like an overall good guy. I haven't grown out my hair in a little while but I aspire to have 1969/1970 Paul vibes whenever I'm a father. You Never Give Me Your Money, Golden Slumbers, She Loves You, The Long and Winding Road, For No One, A Day in the Life, A Fool on the Hill, and Junk are all in my top 250 or so favorite songs of all time. I was trying to get tickets to see him with a friend last year but it ended up not happening.
Hayley Williams
Perhaps my favorite voice of all time. I've always liked Paramore but I wouldn't have considered myself a big fan until the last 5 years or so. Absolutely love the first half of their catalogue and really enjoy most of the second half as well. All We Know is Falling is a top 5 record for me. Hayley is such a talented vocalist it's absurd. She also seems like such a lovely, genuine person who really cares about people.
Sarah "Bonito" Midori Perry
Sarah is the lead singer of Kero Kero Bonito, a British-Japanese Experimental Indie-Pop band, as well as an electronic producer and DJ. I love her work so much, she has a pretty wide range too. A lot of her work is extremely dream-like, with warm, Spring vibes, but other songs are extremely heavy experimental noise music or rave/hardstyle/donk etc. music. I saw a DJ set of hers in Brooklyn last Summer. I think she's like the coolest person in the world.
23. if you could break one of your bad habits which would you choose?
I will discuss two. I have a miserable time waking up in the morning. I can snooze for hours. Doesn't matter when I fell asleep. I can easily sleep for 12+ hours if I had nothing to do that day. I don't usually let that happen but I certainly could. I've tried alarms that make you do math and stuff and I just do right back to sleep. I wish I could just get up like a normal person. I CAN if I have something to do, but if it's just like, I wanna get up early, go to a coffee shop and have a nice morning or something, it basically never happens. The other is, I am hopelessly addicted to Lays™ Lightly Salted Potato Chips. I can't even buy them anymore. I cannot stop eating them, I just don't understand lol. Despite these two bad habits I generally have pretty good impulse control and my life is mostly in order, but these two habits are brutal for me to deal with lol.
