Man. This scene.

As a Mexican-American who grew up believing she was was a fraud, too, this scene will forever be close to my heart. Too light and removed from Mexico to be truly Mexican and too Latina/not American enough to be truly “American.” Never looking like one or the other (at least, what people believed a Mexican and an American should look like—which we know is bullshit).

Like my grandma said, "Ni de aquí, ni de allá.” I always felt ashamed I couldn't be 100% either, not knowing that being a little of both is my identity and one I should be proud of.

Reading this scene for the first time made me feel so seen.
