Can't stop won't stop. Now that the writing has started it's time to populate the Shatt tag ;).
I call this one: "Cause Heck Space is Huge"
It is a short story set throughout the events of Voltron. Except it has my own flair to it since I, like many others, have rewrote Voltron. Main plot points are still there in my rewrite except for Shiro being a clone (bleh). It is a bit angsty but nothing too bad. Plus it transitions into some real good fluff. Anyways, I hope y'all enjoy <3.

When you love someone it's hard to let them go. It was this realization that started the worst part of Shiro's life. He lost a best friend and boyfriend of four years in the matter of seconds- once the word Kerberos was spoken. It felt like his life was ending. He kept on trying desperately to get him back but pushed too hard. Soon he was in the vast expanse of space and felt alone. With just himself and his thoughts. Of course this wasn't true, there were two more life forms on board with him. But it never stopped the feelings. After weeks of prying and offers of help on Matt's part Shiro finally broke. He told Matt everything. Every feeling and every ounce of pain. Matt was a shoulder to cry on and a well of advice. Right when everything seemed to get better, it got worse. Matt's dream came true in the worst way possible and they ended up in a prison cell fearing for their lives. Yet somehow Matt was always able to calm Shiro down and convince him that everything would be okay. So when the time came for the arena and death was inevitable Shiro saved him. He didn't know why at the time but after becoming the Paladin of Voltron he realized why. After many sleepless nights of terror the only thing that would make it better were Matt's words. He held onto them tight so they wouldn't escape. So he wouldn't be helpless. The day that he let them go was when he saw Matt for the first time- walking off of the Green Lion. It took everything in Shiro to not to run over and start sobbing. He had to be a good leader and they wouldn't do such a thing. But when Matt visited him that night in his room everything was cut loose. He told him how much he loved him and Matt gushed back the same sentiments. That's when everything started to get better. Even though Matt had to leave he never really left. The words that Matt told Shiro that night stuck with him. They stuck with him throughout the war and all the way back to their home planet. They stuck with him through the sorrow and devastation. They made him feel whole for the first time in years. Of course if you were to ask him what Matt had said he wouldn't have told. They were his special secret. He owned those words. It wasn't until they were exchanging vows on one starry night that they were spoken by Matt for everyone to hear
"We always said we could do the impossible. And oh boy we did. Even through the worst I wouldn't trade places with anyone else. I always thought the idea of soulmates was a load of crap and honestly I still think that. But if I wasn't with you the first time we went to space- if I wasn't with you through everything, I wouldn't be who I am today. And I only have you to thank for that. You taught me what real friendship is and what real love is. You are the reason why I exist literally and figuratively. I love you to the moon and beyond!! Cause heck space is huge"
