Fours personality and what if he could split in two as well?
So I've been thinking about Four's colours, from the angles of the manga, JoJo's interpretation of Four being quite a balanced person while the colours being aspects of one personality being split out and amplified, and the more common fanon take of Four being made up of four distinct people/personalities.
They align really nicely to the chart of preferences (below).
This is normally used to look at ways of behaviour and working style preferences (I think based on Jung’s work), with a horizontal axis representing the type of energy somebody has (introversion vs extroversion) and the vertical axis representing how they respond or process things (thinking vs feeling).
I personally think the Colours represent the four quadrants well - and this neatly ties up all the different 'headcanons' about how Four and Colours exist (one person who can split into four whereby four main aspects of the singular personality are amplified in each piece, AND Four as person is the amalgamation of four different people/personalities (the Colours) who can exist either as their own individual persons or joined into one shared body) as the centre where both axis cross is a point of balance between reactions and energies. And Four is characterised in the LU comic as being quite a balanced, level headed character who may lean to certain reactions (see diving into battle after Twilight is hurt) but isn't dominated by any colour most of the time.
Blue and Red are the 'feeling' aspects of Four, although it is expressed in different ways and they recharge their energy differently. Red is emotional, emotive, he expresses and processes 'out loud' with words and body language, and his happy place is with the others. Very extroverted. Blue, on the other hand, is emotional in the sense of being reactive. You can read easily how he feels (frustrated, angry, protective, proud) but he doesn't verbally express this and doesn't want to share and process his thoughts and emotions with others. In the manga, Blue is quite content to be on his own! (this doesn't mean he doesn't love the other Colours / parts of himself or enjoy the company of others, but Blue recharges through quiet time by himself, whereas Red is more liable to feel lonely and recharges by sharing energy with people whose company he enjoys).
Vio and Green are the 'thinking' aspects of Four. Vio is often portrayed as the cool, collected and intellectual Colour, and can come across as more aloof and cold (in the manga we see this visually with the half-lidded and pale eyes, aswell as the whole spy/betrayal arc). Vio is content in his own or limited company, happy to read a book and only interjecting into conversation when he has a thoughtful or considered response. Green is more of the leader, and in personality profiling the extroverted-thinking segment is often called the 'director' personality. He is the most goal/task driven, using logic and milestones to measure progress and achieve goals. Green is often seen to be corralling the Colours and trying to lead them to decisions or to make progress, and in fics I've often seen him portrayed as the more politically savvy (or atleast, politically inclined. Vio has the head for it but not the patience and Red has the understanding of others but not the patience for political chess). His is the most charismatic/courtly in his manners when he needs to be.
And this is where I want to write a fic but I cannot figure out how I'd make a story around my idea - Four can also split into two sets of two - whether by accident, design, a power up or under certain circumstances. And the 'Twins' are different again to either Four (whole) or the four Colours. And there are 3 different 'Twins' configurations, where he can split into his thinking (Green & Vio) & feeling (Red & Blue) aspects paired together, split along his energy inclinations of introvert (Vio & Blue) vs extrovert Green & Red) or his opposites, with Blue & Green together and Red & Vio together. The 'opposite' Twins are possibly the least predictable, able to complement and balance their opposites (Good Day energy) or chaotically clash (Bad Day energy) in equal measure.
I don't know, I just think this is neat and Four creates an amazing narrative tool to explore aspects of self. From awareness to acceptance to self love, but also the difficulties of competing aspects and finding your own balance, and at times really not liking either parts or all of yourself. The idea of being able to break that up further with Four, Twins, and Colours really makes Four into a Lego character - the only limits are your imagination in how you put the different coloured blocks together!
And if you found any of this interesting, please shout at me/the void and add in your own thoughts /interpretations in comments/reblogs!
Also if anybody fancies drawing the various ‘Twins’ and their tunics I would die
