incoming! my first tumblr rant. ok so get this. be me, be at work. talking to the relative of one of my clients. haven’t seen her in awhile and inquire about the reason with genuine interest. she relates that she traveled interstate to attend a bible class. interesting. ask what christian religion she associates with - never heard of it and she explains and i listen with attentiveness while completing my work. she returns the question and asks which i associate with. im not religious but i have some inclinations into humanism and spirituality but to avoid possible confusion ect i respond casually saying i’m an atheist. her response - somewhat delayed - is “how sad for you” and ends the conversation with a sniff and goes on her merry way...umm what? just hold up bitch! i fucking listened and made genuine inquires about your religious interests but me being an ‘atheist’ is met with indifference and pity. fuck i hate this double standard! this isn’t the first time nor will it be the last i receive backhanded responses to my ‘non-religious’ choice. you believe in some all-powerful, egotistical being in the sky that expects your worship whose theology has been flogged from the several other religions?! well how sad that you dedicate your life to such fantasies. that’s my opinion YET i don’t fucking shove that in your face. i keep my opinion to myself ‘cause i don’t want pointless confrontation nor to demean your choices. have the same fucking courtesy to do the same. fucking hell. note to self: atheism is a bad life choice - it upsets others. to those who might read this, i don’t mean to offend you. not my intention. it’s just so bloody irritating! respect people, respect!
