Tbh, it breaks my heart that you aren’t used to complements. 😢 You’re so talented and creative, plus everyone deserves complements.

I mean it’s partially on me. When I was little the compliments were like half jokes? So like teasing? Idk if that makes sense. Like I’d be complimented but I guess it was a lie because then there was laughing or it was just a lie so I became defensive about them. 

I remember in high school, I was at lunch and this guy came up to our table (he knew me and my friends from theater) and he told me randomly “you’re like really pretty and beautiful” and I just... lost it. I told him to get away from me and that he wasn’t funny and he looked so concerned and freaked out and my friends had to calm me down and tell me he was just being nice. 

Now, in college, I’m less defensive, but I just don’t know how to answer to them.
