Perstorp to sell caprolactone business to Ingevity for €590 mn

Perstorp has agreed to sell its caprolactone business, Capa to Ingevity, for approximately €590 million. The deal includes the production site in Warrington. The transaction is expected to close the transaction in the first quarter of 2019.

Under Perstorp’s leadership during the last 10 years, Capa’s operating margins have increased by almost 50 percent by investing in production and new product lines, which in turn have increased both the customer base and the geographic reach. This has made Capa a highly attractive asset, gaining interest among several potential buyers of which Ingevity now will be the new owner to continue to develop the long-term value of the business. Ingevity will acquire Perstorp UK Ltd including Perstorp’s entire caprolactone business.

The sale of Capa will unlock significant value and is in line with Perstorp’s track record of successful divestments such as most recently the BioFuels Business and in 2017, the Belgian site in Gent.

Perstorp sells BioProducts business, includes site in Norway

Perstorp announced the sale of Perstorp BioProducts, a leading producer of biodiesel and glycerine in Scandinavia to a Swedish investor.

The sale includes the production site in Fredrikstad, Norway, while the production site in Stenungsund, Sweden, will remain under Perstorp’s ownership. Perstorp will also, for a limited time, be a minority owner of the new company i.e. Adesso BioProducts AB.

The 20 staff employed at Perstorp BioProducts, mostly in Fredrikstad, have been offered to continue their employment with Adesso BioProducts AB.

A tolling agreement forms a part of the sale, whereby Perstorp will continue to produce biodiesel at Stenungsund production site for Adesso BioProducts. In the long term, Adesso might relocate production and Perstorp may look to repurpose this site for other speciality chemical products.

Perstorp to expand Pevalen non-phthalate plasticizer capacity

Perstorp to substantially expand the production capacity of its non-phthalate polyester plasticizer Pevalen from 2019 onwards. To achieve this Perstorp has entered into a long-term production agreement with Italian company Alcoplast Srl. The new partnership more than doubles the current production capacity, bringing it in total to 50.000 tons per year and improving unit metrics due to the economies of scale.

Pevalen (pentaerythritol tetravalerate or PETV) is Perstorp’s high-performance, true non-phthalate plasticizer. It is the perfect choice for sensitive applications and products in direct human contact, e.g. toys and childcare products, apparel and accessories, sports & leisure products, automotive interiors or other indoor applications such as furniture, floors or wall coverings in both homes and public spaces. Pevalen has a unique performance not matched by any other available plasticizer with high plasticizing efficiency in combination with low migration and volatility.

Perstorp changes name of low-carbon runaway deicers

PERSTORP, SWEDEN: Perstorp has taken the decision to rename its more environmentally friendly deicer for airport runways from Nordway to Pergrip Run, strengthening its Pergrip-branded range of deicers

Pergrip Run effectively deices runways, ensures safe take offs and landings even in the harshest of weather, while minimising harmful effects to the environment. It enables airports to lower their deicer related carbon footprint by up to 65 percent, it is biodegradable, and minimises corrosion to airplanes.

Pergrip Run can be offered as a Potassium Formate based liquid or as a Sodium Formate based granulate. Formate based deicers have the lowest chemical oxygen demand (COD) compared with other organic deicers. This means less stress on the aquatic ecosystem.

Pergrip is supported by the knowledge, experience and scale Perstorp has achieved by being the global leader in the production and supply of Potassium and Sodium Formate.
