Started watching Dangerous Romance because I saw images of Perth slutting it up in Dior. Was not disappointed. It's like yeah, he was going to put a gun to Sailom's head, but his drip is unreal, so I'll allow it.

Kang's grandma did not just say, "Hey, come move into my home so my barely legal grandson can make it into college and knock the bottom out on the regular."
Never change, BL. Never change.
But actually do, because omfg. Like, could you imagine if MST3K had a BL edition? I'd fucking die.
Low budget media is where dreams are made, broken, and horribly misshapen.
Guess I called it on the pigtail pulling vibe I was picking up with Dangerous Romance, because the plot is advancing fast. It's in a semi-believable way, since Kang's definitely at a vulnerable age that would see him attaching to anyone filling the emotional deficits he's experiencing fairly quickly.
There's been some pretty big indications that Kang's desire to initiate conflict stemmed from a desire for attention from Sailom. The oddest part of this whole conflict was Kang buying a report from a student that was struggling himself. A student that had to be tutored. By Sailom.
The second odd part was Kang's unwillingness to use physical violence on Sailom. He'll use it on Sailom's friends, on strangers, on anyone who rubs him the wrong way, and Perth's acting is good enough you can see the distinct differences in body language when he interacts with Sailom in anger versus other people. Kang's not tense. He's relaxed, he puts his hands on Sailom's shoulder, throws an arm around him. His physicality is different. I fucking see you, Perth. You're killing it.
I think things are moving fast, and while I'm prone to chalking that up to budgetary constraints not allowing for enough episodes, because all the studios making this shit are babies; I'm also prone to thinking it could be intentional character writing.
Kang has Sailom's attention. It's clear his next step is keeping it, and I don't think he knows how to do this in a healthy way. He knows how to do it by tricking him into accepting $150 worth of steak. That prize had me shooketh for Thailand. What do they feed cows over there? Diamonds and corn? It's clear Kang has figured out Sailom won't respond to money, in fact that will piss him off, but he will respond to kindness and a little trickery.
Kang's striking me as having decided on Sailom, and is now showering him with kindness to rope him into a situation where he feels comfortable with Kang and also even maybe dependent. Kang's toxic quality is that he definitely wants a sense of control in his relationships, likely because he has absolutely none with his father. I think he wants to be grounded in the security of knowing someone is depending on him. That someone needs him. And boy does Sailom ever need someone. I'm telling you right now, his brother is robbing his patients.
Anyways, it's going to be interesting watching this play out, because if it plays up to its potential with these first three episodes, we're looking at a fast, passionate, and toxic love affair.
I'm here for it.
Something I didn't expect to like about Dangerous Romance was kind of the cleverness of the dynamic happening between Kang and Sailom. Because I really get a pigtail pulling vibe from Kang when it comes to Sailom, and Sailom being this mixture of annoyed and aware of it. And I think playing that dynamic really justified the hug at the end of episode 2 in such a way it kept it from feeling out of place.
Has Kang been messing with Sailom these first two episodes in an absolutely reprehensible way? Yes. But it's because he wants Sailom's attention, and Sailom knows this. Sailom getting on the back of Kang's bike showed early on he KNOWS this boy is not going to hurt him. Sailom's smart, he's definitely noticed that Kang has no issue with physical violence, but doesn't seem to use it on him. You could say maybe he held back because Sailom is much more distinctly physically smaller than Kang in a way his friend wasn't, but I doubt that's the case. I don't think size would inhibit Kang's violence, but finding something or someone cute would. For a young, angry queer man, that is a very sensible place to draw the line.
Anyways, I expect things to ramp up reasonably quickly. BL is in its hot girl summer, and Dangerous Romance is set to deliver. If it doesn't, at least we have Perth in designer duds, and I won't ever be mad about that.
