Stop the massacres in Peru!

A protest in solidarity with Peru’s Indigenous and poor peoples and against the military and police massacres was held across from the United Nations headquarters in New York City on March 31. Since Peru’s elected President, Pedro Castillo, was overthrown and jailed on Dec. 7, 2022, hundreds of Peruvians have been beaten and killed for protesting the coup.

2 days before coup, U.S. ambassador in Peru, veteran CIA agent, met with defense minister

The U.S. ambassador in Peru, a veteran CIA agent named Lisa Kenna, met with the country’s defense minister just two days before democratically elected left-wing President Pedro Castillo was overthrown in a coup d’etat and imprisoned without trial. The coup set off mass protests all across Peru. The unelected regime has unleashed brutal violence, and police have killed numerous demonstrators. Meanwhile, the U.S. government has staunchly supported Peru’s unelected coup regime.

‘They shot them down like animals’: massacre in Peru’s Ayacucho

Ten people were killed as a result of this violence inflicted by the army, and dozens more were injured, according to official numbers provided by the ombudsman’s office. At least six people are still fighting for their lives in hospitals in Peru’s capital Lima and in Ayacucho. Autopsies of 10 of those who died in Ayacucho show that six of the victims died from gunshot wounds to the chest. The youngest was just 15 years old.

Approval of U.S. troops to train Peruvian armed forces proves U.S. behind coup

U.S. SOUTHCOM is strengthening ties with Peru’s coup government by training that country’s military and police force

Amid continuing social upheaval five months after the parliamentary coup against Pedro Castillo, the Peruvian Congress, controlled by the hard right, has approved the entrance of U.S. troops into national territory to train the Peruvian military and National Police beginning June 1st through the end of the year. This comes after Peru's Supreme Court ruled that protest is not a protected right under the 1993 Fujimori dictatorship-era constitution.

Peru rejects the coup!

Close to a hundred people gathered in Manhattan’s Union Square Jan. 28 to protest the coup in Peru and the bloody police terror there. Peru’s President Pedro Castillo was overthrown on Dec. 7, 2002. Since then, at least 66 people protesting the coup have been murdered by police and the army. President Castillo continues to be jailed along with hundreds of protesters.

Peru: A reactionary coup is consummated

Dec. 7 was a particularly complicated day in Peru. In a few hours, the ultra-right partially achieved its goal: to overthrow the government of Pedro Castillo and open the way to a new scenario in national life, in which it can preserve its privileges and recover its positions of power, in some way questioned by the regime established as of July 28 last year.
