“ It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it. ” <3 Lu
Terry Pratchett Sentence Starters // @perverse-stigmata
Swift shoots a finger gun of approval at the devil. “It ain’t just the BIG stuff either.” A look of fond reminiscence settles on the detective’s face. “Sometimes, when I ain’t so JAZZED about how my life is goin’, I look at my little black book’ve people who’d MUCH RATHER I be dead,” he confides, “ & what can I say ? It gives me those warm, Disney Ending fuzzies EVERY time ! ”
“ Goodness is about what you do. Not who you pray to. ” - Lillian
Terry Pratchett Sentence Starters // @perverse-stigmata
Swift snorts & shakes his head at that. “ GOODNESS is about where you’re standing.” Leaning back in his chair, he spreads his arms in an inquiring gesture. “Say I track down someone who never wanted to be found & dime them out to their handwringing family,” Swift plucks a snow globe paperweight off the desk & tosses it from hand to hand as he speaks, “or I prove that one big company is spewing their poison into the water, just so the OTHER big company can corner the market & spew more’ve THEIR poison into the air -- ” Certainly there are general examples Swift could’ve used in his appeal to moral relativism, but he likes to speak from EXPERIENCE when making a point. “Is there an EQUATION that calculates the net goodness of those actions ? Or are there just SOME people I made a little happier than others ? ” It’s clear from his tone that Swift doesn’t think much of the former. He returns the paperweight to the general vicinity of where he found it & digs out a half smoked cigarette from the tent of an overturned notebook. “ EITHER WAY , ” He shrugs, firing up the stub, “I come out with enough cash to keep these lights on a little longer. THAT’S what goodness is about.”

Lillian’s apparent understanding is so welcome that Delia can’t bring herself to resent it. She smiles at the choice of scripture ; its passage has not spent an insignificant amount of time on her mind lately. “You may be right,” she murmurs, and while she’s admitting things . . . “But I understand so little.” It was almost unbearable at first, after a near eternity of what felt like perfect understanding. & who is Delia to presume that she can do anything but fail on her own ? Ah, well ; there’s nothing for it. “It’s hard to know if I’m making myself better when I don’t know what it is I did wrong.” Only that it must have been awful.
❝ I believe you. I applaud your desire to do the right thing. ❞ ( From Lillian. )
✝️ a damn good cup of coffee
“ DON’T … ” She mumbles, arms snaking tighter around her own waist.
“Just … I don’t need to hear it. Not from YOU or – ”
Anyone else that has the slightest idea what she’s going through ? Oh, Delia will analyze it later, but she CAN’T contend with sympathy NOW …
🍑 xo, Lu. -> Too lazy to change accounts, but @perverse-stigmata.

Delia gasps & clenches her fist before whirling. THIS gesture is becoming increasingly familiar in her current line of work, yet it still manages to draw surprise in each instance. AT LEAST it fails to register as an attack on her person, resulting in relatively few broken bones thus far …
" JUST because I’m on the clockdoesn’t mean I CAN’T OR WON’T hit you.”
The chastisement comes out in a quiet rush.
“So maybe you should try REPRESSING the urgeto act like such a rotten little beast – ”
" I'm not who you think I am. " - Lillian
@perverse-stigmata
His expression is carefully neutral despite the immediate, violent contractions of horror clenching his limbs and whispering to run now run before it is too late. The need is almost choking as he denies it, because she wants to talk. She wants to talk to him, and he cannot begin to fathom why.
If she wants to talk, he can acquiesce. There isn’t much alternative. She hasn’t hurt him yet, but she can only be too capable.
“I … certainly have a concept of who you are.” Every word is deliberate, halting. Polite and terrified, and respectful enough not to hide his fear. “If that concept is wrong, I would ask to be enlightened.”
Aconite
Plant & Flower Symbolism Asks // @perverse-stigmata
Aconite - What are your muses thoughts on their own species in general ? Do they believe in inherent goodness of them ? Generally self-serving ? Etc ?
Swift’s not sure if humans are intrinsically bad, but he’s damn sure they’re not intrinsically GOOD . He DOES believe humans are self - interested & self - serving – not always or without exception, but overall. He's not convinced that there’s anything INHERENTLY harmful about selfishness, though he knows how much harm CAN & DOES come out of it. At the end of the day, everyone’s looking out for ‘emself -- for their own survival, their own happiness, their own peace of mind ; the only real VARIABLE is how much they’re willing to hurt others in the process. So when Swift is glacially slow to trust or assumes ulterior motives where they’re aren’t any, it’s REALLY nothing PERSONAL .
