What to keep in mind before getting your pet micro-chipped?
Most often all animal shelters and veterinary hospital and clinics have scanners. According to a data recorded in the year 2008, U.S has over 70,000 scanners that could scan all most every microchip manufactured by any company.
Many veterinarians in the US including Virginia Beach veterinary hospital suggest implanting the new ISO standard microchip. Even the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Animal Hospital Association advocate the use of global standard microchip for pets.
In case you are traveling to a foreign country with your pet, your pet might need to get micro-chipped to enter that country. In such a case, prefer implanting an ISO certified chip. Since most countries use the ISO standard scanner, they will be able to read the microchip easily.
It is advised that a pet shouldn’t be micro-chipped more than once. Having too many microchips interferes with the reading making it difficult to track the information of the pet owner.
