I'm really not trying to be all preachy here, so forgive me but it's important. Painting your pet for Halloween is awesome (especially those skeleton ones, those are cool as hell) but make sure you're using the appropriate kind of paint. There's special paint just for animals called Pet Paint that is specifically designed for painting animals. Do not use acrylic or oil based paints (or any other craft paints -you're not even supposed to put these on human skin) on your animals. The last thing I want to see on my dash is that someone's animal had to be rushed to the emergency vet to get medicine or their little tummy pumped or worse because they couldn't stop licking at the paint. So just be careful, I know it's really tempting to water down that acrylic craft paint and just go to town because you've done it to yourself a bunch of times and you've been fine. But let's just not take that chance with the babies, alright? (Also do NOT paint actual human babies with craft paint, they have skin of silk and clouds and cannot handle it... I can only hope this was extremely obvious to everyone but you never know.)

Dog Approved Halloween Costumes from Pet Paint

Animals in costumes are one of the best things about Halloween. Although my dachshund, Chili, wears his hot dog buns proudly this time of year, many other four legged friends refuse playing dress up. Kirby, my boyfriend’s English bulldog, falls in to the “if you put anything silly on me I will lay down and not move in protest” group. Enter Pet Paint- a veterinary approved temporary colored hair spray for dogs. The possibilities are endless with this product! In addition to providing an extensive color range of sprays, Pet Paint also offers unique stencils that produce professional quality patterns. Of course I had to try this pup decorating product on Kirby and ordered "Poodle Pink" paint plus the "Buddy" stencil pack. As a trial run, we entered a charity pet fashion show dressed as Jem and the Holograms with Kirby covered in pink stars. Not Only was the spray super easy to apply, but she didn’t mind or really notice what I was doing. Kirby even laid down and closed her eyes as I painted her. Pet Paint recommends applying a finishing topical setting spray to increase longevity and prevent rub off.  Running out of time I didn’t use the sealant on Kirby, so light pink smudges turned up around my apartment for the next few days (but washed out easily). I’m kinda obsessed with these fun products. Now I just have to decide if Kirby will be cutest as a jack-o-lantern or a zebra.
