‘ guess i got two uncles now, huh?’
☘️ a pause is given as they slice lemons. it’s not her first sunday over, it won’t be the rose’s last ( if he has any say in it ), and it’s the third time now they’re trying a new lemon and lavender shortbread cookie recipe. more citrus, less salt this time. it’s not the first time he’s been able to ‘hang out’ with qrow’s niece. she’s seen their home the two purchased after retiring, she’s met their dogs. this isn’t the first time she’s been here.
but it’s the first time she says uncle, and clover realizes it probably won’t be the last.
she grates lemon skins into a bowl while he’s supposed to be juicing the slices, and yet clover can’t continue right away. instead, he smiles, soft and warm and one that feels a lot more goofy than he intends, but he’s just. very happy. very, stupidly happy. my niece.
“yes, i guess you do,” he responds, and if there’s a tightness in his throat, don’t worry about it. it’s just the lemons. // @petalfought
