Gentle Paladin, by Peter Balogh

I ran across Peter's concept work for his original characters of the Holy Lemurian Empire a while back and have meant for a while to offer a writeup for one of his heroines. It's kind of a fascinating science-fantasy project with a lot of medieval-fantasy elements in an intergalactic theocracy. I mean, there's dragons and battle armor and dragons in battle armor; knights and paladins and snipers in a story with armadas of giant spaceships. A delightful conglomeration of sci-fi/fantasy nerdiness for the whole family.

Our lovely paladin, Praetorian Quintus Lucetta Gentile, is one of the six highest ranking commanders in the Lemurian Empire. Theirs are is a military of genetically and cybernetically enhanced soldiers, far stronger and more resilient than humanly imaginable. One of the story's lead characters, Lucetta has a lot of concept sketches and alternate armors throughout Peter's galleries. But in all of them I like that she comes across as a powerful character with a competent, introspective, even good-humored air.
