Poirot, 2010
Ricky Deeming - Richard Armitage [Inspector George Gently]
Battle Mage by Peter Flannery I definitely wouldn’t have read this. It took my like three quarters of the way through before I really got into. I think it was partially the narration, he would stop or even sound like he was cut off at the ends of words and there were weird pauses between chapters or sentences. Maybe it was the editing. Anywho, it was ok. I did eventually get into it and enjoy it. Just took a lot longer than normal.
Our Friends in the North (9 episodes, 1996)
Christopher Eccleston on "Our Friends in the North":
What attracted me to the project was Peter Flannery’s writing. I had great admiration for the impulse to write about the big issues . . .
You realize as you do drama that what’s really interesting - I realized it on Cracker, for instance - that every character in some way is an alter-ego of the writer. So I realized that Nicky was a big part of Peter, perhaps the part of Peter that feels like a failure, perhaps the part of Peter that’s an idealist, perhaps the part of Peter that lacks a little bit of self-esteem at times . . . So yeah, I decided to try and turn myself into Peter, really, to try and see the world the way I believed Peter did at various stages in his life, and in the later episodes I even took to wearing his shirts, which are extravagant.
Presumably this is one of Peter Flannery's extravagant shirts. Another example of Chris using talismans to connect him to a role.
Oh, and apparently he's got a silver-banded watch. In earlier episodes he had a black-banded one.
