Match Report: Dark Knight Rises against Old Glossop
On Saturday, Tintwistle CC welcomed Old Glossop to Speedwell in Round 11 of the DCCL. With Tintwistle's last win registered against Newton back in May the pressure was on for the home side. With both teams suffering from recent abandoned games, both sets of players and umpires were in desperate need of a game. The first hour was lost as the outfield was given time to dry and the game reduced to 36 overs a side. Old Glossop won the toss and asked Tintwistle to bat first.
Ricky Harris and Martyn Knight opened up for Tintwistle and got off to a great start. The first 5 run scoring shots were all boundaries and the score stood at 36 when Harris (19) was bowled by Woodcock's excellently delivered slower ball. Tintwistle lost Skipper Matt Robinson and Kieran Davies in quick succession with the score at 56-4. However, Knight looked in fine fettle and was in desperate need of a supporting role at the other end. Weatherhead (11) did just that allowing Knight to flourish as he moved through the gears with some fine stroke play. Simon Barrow (17) scored useful runs as Knight was eventually caught for 98. Knight's innings was fantastic and contained 13 boundaries, 8 x 4's and 5 x 6's. Tintwistle finished up on 162-8. Declan Hall was the pick the bowlers who finished with figures of 4-64 off 15 overs.
In reply, Old Glossop made a steady start with Nicholson scoring a useful 32. The visitors lost Wright and King in quick succession and were wobbling when Martin McGrail strode to the crease. McGrail can be a devastating batsman and the home side were relieved when Higginbottom snared him for 32. Higginbottom bowled very well and eradicated most of the middle order finishing with magical figures of 4-20 off 11 overs. Pool bowled well from the other end picking up 4-59 off 16 overs. The visitors finished on 102-8 after the full compliment of 36 overs.
Tintwistle picked up 17 match winning points and look forward to visiting Hayfield next Saturday.
