TCC Handbook Corrections
The start time for the next two senior games on 23rd and 30th August is 1:00pm and not 1:30pm as stated in the handbook. The times on the website are correct.
The date for the last game of the season is Saturday 13th September and not the 12th as stated in the handbook. Again, details on the website are correct.
TCC Le Tour Top Tips
It’s going to be a grande weekend. Tops tips for enjoying Stage 2 of the Grande Depart from the Tintwistle area.
Everybody at the club has been working hard to get ready for the weekend. We are open and ready to see you all from Friday evening. We have a BBQ, café serving all sorts of nutritional wonders and of course our bar that has a range of hydration drinks! The forecast is looking good for the weekend and we have a game planned for Saturday afternoon. Sat in the sun, drinking a glass of fizz or a pint of ale listening to the sound of leather on willow…..what could be a more delightfully English way to prepare for the big day?
All roads are open on Saturday, but are expected to be busier than usual; our advice is to come to the area early and enjoy the views, walks and the cricket. There is very reasonable parking and camping in Tintwistle with perfect access to both our café and the shuttle buses that will be running from Sunday morning at 7am.
A range of road closures will be in place from midnight Saturday, details can be found on High Peak Council’s website. However there will be access for cars to the parking in Tintwistle and of course the shuttle buses. All roads will be open for cyclists….go on, dust off that old chopper and get yourself ready to see the likes of Chris Froome and Mark Cavendish pass by.
Here’s our top tips for viewing the stage from our local cycling expert.
Take advantage of the main A628 being closed and cycle from the cricket ground up the road, take a left as the route joins the A628 and head up to Holme Moss summit. KOM points available here and it’s sure to be the king of the atmosphere on the day. The route officially enters Derbyshire at this point.
For those that don’t have the climbing in their bike legs to get up to Holme Moss, cycle from the cricket ground up the A628 and view the stage as the route joins the road. This point is an extremely tight bend following the decent from Holme Moss; the riders are sure to slow and if they don’t it could be interesting.
Cycle from the cricket ground and pick up the Trans-Pennine Trail either in Hadfield or from the bridge at Tintwistle. You’ll need your MTB or cross bikes for this route it’s off road but on a great flat old railway line track. It heads up to the Woodhead Tunnels and viewing of the stage as the riders climb Woodhead will be good.
For those that don’t fancy using their bikes there are shuttle buses running in Tintwistle from 7am Sunday morning. They will be dropping people off at Crowden. There will then be a walk to where the route joins the A628. Watch from this corner or if you fancy a bit more of a walk head further up the route and watch the riders climb up Woodhead, this is a more sedate climb than Holme Moss and will be a bit quicker.
Which ever route you chose head to up there early if you want a good spot.
Have a grande time and we hope to welcome you all onto our ground at some point over the weekend.

AJ Harris delivers the Holy Grail
Every once in a while you get the opportunity to write an article that is of significant importance. This is one of those moments. Yesterday, Tintwistle welcomed Broadbottom to the SCG. It was an important fixture after a series of defeats and going out of the Bissenden Cup at the first hurdle. Broadbottom are a team who are more than capable of beating anyone - it was going to be a huge challenge for Tinsle. Broadbottom took first knock on what became the hottest day of the year and not only simply because of the weather. AJ Harris, who clearly had the bit between his teeth, delivered a masterclass of seam, swing, field placement and being three steps ahead of everyone else. Wickets fell at regular intervals with Broadbottom unable to get going and build partnerships. Harris cleared the decks and took all 10 wickets that stood before him. A first for the club and a massive achievement for AJ and something he will be tremendously proud of. Eleven players had taken 9 wickets in 1st XI fixtures. The legendary Harry Goddard took 9 wicket hauls on two occasions. The best ever performance was Jack Hampshire who finished with figures of 9-6 in a Glossop & District League game against Whitfield St James. In recent years the most talked about 9 wicket haul was Michael Bridge who took 9-47 against Chapel in 1979. For many years, it felt that 10 wickets was beyond anyones reach. Yesterday, AJ delivered and set a new benchmark, 10-24 off 11 overs that contained 4 maidens. Fantastic!!! Broadbottom were bowled out for 79 runs. In reply, Pete Higginbottom (13) and Damian Weatherhead (33) opened the batting and got off to a great start putting 48 runs on the board for the loss of the first wicket. Tintwistle eased to victory and finished with a much needed win. The day however belonged to AJ Harris, and rightly so. #p2btcc
Weatherhead spearheards victory against Woodley
Tintwistle CC 1st XI travelled to Woodley yesterday in the opening fixture of the 2014 season. Tintwistle were asked to bat first after the home side won the coin toss.
Matt Robinson and Pete Higginbottom opened the batting for the visitors. Tintwistle had 9 runs on the board when they lost their first wicket as Robinson was caught by Webb off the bowling of Lonsdale. Damian Weatherhead was in at 3 and and solid partnership was quickly formed with Higginbottom. The pair put on 65 runs before Higginbottom was dismissed for 25 - a good start for the ever improving all rounder. Weatherhead dominated the bowling attack and stayed at the crease as others came and went. He scored plenty of boundaries in his final total of 71. A great start for the player.
The other main contributor was AJ Harris who made 18 not out. Tintwistle finished on 155 for 6 after the full allocation of 45 overs. The pick of the bowlers was P Coffey who finished with 3-35 of 9 overs.
The Tintwistle bowlers were quickly into their stride with AJ Harris and James Pool taking early wickets. Webb and Kay hung around making 21 & 20 respectively. Wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals as the Tintwistle bowlers made their mark. There was a spirited fightback by Duggan who came in at 8 and made 43 before being dismissed by Pool. Woodley were eventually bowled out for 141. The pick of the bowlers were AJ Harris 3-15, Higginbottom 3-25 and Pool 3-40. Kez Davies opened his 2014 account with 3 catches behind the sticks which indicates good tight bowling and safe hands. Martyn Knight, the Tinsle Skipper will be happy with the 18 match winning points but won't want to see batters coming in at 8 & 9 and putting on partnerships of over 50 runs. Last season Tinsle were guilty of not finishing teams off and Knight will not want to carry that trait into 2014.
Upon reflection a win on the road to a newly promoted team is a great start by the 1st XI.
Up at Speedwell, the 2nd XI came second best as Woodley ran out comfortable winners.
A stern test for Knights chargers next weekend as the 1st XI welcome Hayfield to The SCG.
Cricket Season starts tomorrow!
So after a long wet winter the cricket season has finally arrived. We kick the season off with the visit of Woodley CC tomorrow to play TCC 2nd XI at Speedwell tomorrow starting at 1:30pm. Take advantage of the weather and come along, take in some cricket with a cold refreshment!
A couple of weeks ago the cricket ground looked a very different place than it does today. Thanks to the weather and the hard work of the ground staff The SCG looks in fantastic condition.
The club is 100% behind both Senior Captains and we expect all the players to give total commitment. Let's build on 2013 and make 2014 another year to remember.

Grand Depart 2014 Tour de France 2014 Yorkshire and yes Derbyshire too!
On Sunday July 6th Stage 2 of the Grand Depart Tour de France will be passing within 3 miles of our cricket ground. During the weekend of the 6th July we will be providing a host of refreshment options and joining in the carnival atmosphere.
Overnight before Stage 2 we have a 24 hour café stop facility aimed at spectator cyclists who need a refreshment break en route to the route. We are ideally situated on the main A628, the only open local road that leads directly to the TDF route and the iconic Holme Moss climb, where King of the Mountain points are up for grabs!
Tintwistle CC will be one of the last refreshment stops available on the A628 for cyclists, as there will be very little or no opportunity to purchase refreshments further along the route. The café stop will provide hot and cold refreshments, BBQ, hot suppers, hot breakfasts, toilets, cycle racking and cycle maintenance. Over the weekend there will be food and a bar available, along with some excellent local cricket for you to watch.
About Tintwistle (or Tinsle as it is known) Tintwistle is a small village just north of Glossop located in Peak District at the lower end of Longdendale Valley. Tintwistle and is divided in two by the A628 (Woodhead Pass), the major route linking Manchester and Sheffield, which further along becomes part of the Stage 2 route.
Access to the motorway network is only 2 miles away. Less than 1 mile from Hadfield station which has a direct link to Manchester and 750 yards to the Trans Pennine cycle trail which will take you directly to the Stage 2 route. A section of the village is within the Peak District national park boundary and is designated a conservation area. The area is not only in an enviable position for getting to the route for Stage two but also offers some of the best countryside in the world and a fantastic base for the whole weekend.
