Today, I cried multiple times at college and again when I got home. And I am crying as I am writing this. I was writing my exam paper on Iraq and ISIS when I stumbled upon Abdul-Rahman (Peter) Kassig's story. Of course, I had heard about his beheading when it happened but I usually try to distance myself from media and didn't know much about him. Kassig was American aid worker who was helping the Syrian refugees. He had been a ranger/solider in Iraq and decided to stay to help. Kassig  said he had found his calling and wrote that “my whole life has led me to this point in time”. " He stayed, and bandaged wounds, cared for people in clinics, and, just generally, helped." He was captured by ISIS while he was delivering medical aid.

I don't understand why people like him are always the ones who suffer. I don't know how many more innocent people have die before people learn war and hate only begets more war and hate. But for now I know that to me Abdul-Rahman (Peter) Kassig is an inspiration. A man who refused to back down and turn his back on the situation of the Syrian people.
