So I’m working on my next blog post about Peter Stuart Ney, who was supposedly Marshal Michel Ney, and I found this registry for an Inn in North Carolina. While I do not believe that Peter Ney was Michel Ney, the whole legend fascinates me but it just got a little more personal because of one of the underlined names, F. W. Pickens, better known as Francis Wilkinson Pickens. I recognize that handwriting and name anywhere because Francis is near and dear to my heart as he was the husband of Lucy Holcombe Pickens, the lady I portray in reenacting and have been researching for over 11 years now. The fact that there is a possibility that Francis met the mysterious Peter Stuart Ney is just soooo awesome to me!
Also, just read what Peter Ney wrote beside his name as his reason for staying at the Inn:
“Sept, 20 Pet Ney - An atom floating on the atmosphere of chance.”
Love it!
This register from an unknown Inn in North Carolina is from the 1830′s, 1834, I believe, but I can’t remember exactly.
