While there, James was awarded a Luetz/Riedel Fellowship to study for one semester at École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts in Paris, France. There, James immersed himself in the study of Monet’s Les Nympheas. After graduating from Hunter, James was honored with a Tony Smith Foundation Award. He presently lives and works in Brooklyn and teaches undergraduate art at Fordham University’s Rose Hill Campus in the Bronx, New York. He is the guest curator for Fordham University at Lincoln Center’s Alumni Exhibitions.
- James Vanderberg recently collaborated with his brother, Peter Vanderberg, on an art book to be released this July. Weather-Eye is a book of poems, drawings and paintings by two brothers from Long Island. James (the artist) and Peter (the poet) grew up on the south shore, spending their summers exploring the waters and beaches of the Great South Bay. After many travels, education and varied pursuits, they have both returned to their native shores with renewed interest in this place and the personal resonance it holds for them.
