Stephen Eakin at Honey Ramka, Bushwick

Stephen Eakin, Fowler studio artist, has a solo show opening TONIGHT at Honey Ramka. Permanent Collection opens Fri., March 13th from 6-9pm, and runs through Sunday, April 26th.

Honey Ramka is located on the 1st floor of the famed 56 Bogart Street building in Bushwick, Brooklyn, 11206. Gallery hours during the run of the exhibition are Fri + Sat + Sun from 1-6pm.

Honey Ramka is pleased to present Permanent Collection, an exhibition by Stephen Eakin. As Eakin explains: "I work with traditional Shaker furniture forms, though I take liberties with these forms that the Shakers would not. They interest me in that, through their work, they became responsible for some of the fundamentals of contemporary object making, such as the invention of the circular saw. Their deep investment in the labor of object making, a labor that is either removed or outsourced by many contemporary artists and makers, seems an important vantage point to understanding how we relate to objects."

David Head, Jr. and Le Collektor

Fowler studio artist, David Head, Jr., is the creative director of Le Collektor, an innovative line of hoodies with interchangeable, limited edition hoods designed by artists.

THIS Tuesday, March 3rd, Le Collektor is teaming up with Collage NYC in producing a big live painting / old school hip hop party. More info here: https://www.facebook.com/events/768515469900034

Artists are invited to paint live and to have a chance to turn their canvas into the next limited edition, collectible, interchangeable art hood produced by Le Collektor. There will be drinks, DJs, lots of up and coming and established artists, and art lovers having a good time. TONIGHT! James Vanderberg, in a two person show with Levi Haske, has an exhibition opening at Los Ojos in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

Los Ojos is proud to present new works by James Vanderberg and Levi Haske, two Brooklyn-based artists who are exhibiting for the first time at the gallery.

James Vanderberg's paintings in acrylic and oil draw from his upbringing in Long Island as well as residencies in Vermont and abroad. His abstract works incorperate imagery from nautical ropework as well as sea and mountain landscapes. Despite their diversity of size, each of Vanderberg's works draws close attention to painterly gesture and demonstrates a deft handling of color and medium. Vanderberg received his MFA from CUNY Hunter College and currently lives and works in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Levi Haske builds his work in additive layers, creating a dense foundation of color whose strata are then partially revealed through subtraction. After starting with an intuitively arranged grid of plywood, he paints layers of acrylic and oil over the grid. The results are enigmatic compositions that encourage close scrutiny. His work on paper is made of similar layers of painting upon which he employs an etching technique and demonstrates his interest in our perception of foundation and surface. Haske received his MFA from Parsons, lives in Williamsburg and works in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

TONIGHT! Our friend and neighbor on the 2nd floor of 67 West, Calico Brooklyn, is holding their much anticipated annual holiday exhibition, Calicornicopia 3.

Exhibition Opening: Friday, Dec 5, 7-10pm Exhibition Dates: Dec. 5th - Jan. 2nd

The exhibition features the work of over 50 artists priced at $300 or less. Fowler artists past and present are included, so make sure to attend tonight and snap up some gorgeous, affordable artwork! Fowler Nation: Buket Savci

Fowler studio artist, Buket Savci, opens her first solo show today! 

Playground, opens at Olcay Art in Istanbul, Turkey, Tues., Nov. 4th from 6-9pm. 

Exhibition Dates: Nov. 4 - Dec. 11, 2014

From an article by Jacob Hicks previewing the show in Quantum Art Review: "Passion, whether love or play, is to divest from self and move into other.  It is to extend beyond the internal and to momentarily co-mingle.  The way the artist stages her scenes, which are based on an initial photograph, is a reflection of the fight for the preservation of passing intimacy."
