neville was in the midst for spearheading a rebellion at hogwarts.
he would have never guessed six years ago that he would be brave enough to do so, but this was as easy as breathing now.
he rubbed his palms together inside the room of requirement and paced as he watched luna write furiously with a quill.
her dirty blonde hair was falling in front of her face, and neville had the strong urge to push it back away from her forehead.
but he pushed that feeling aside and tried to focus on the matters at hand.
“are you ready?” he asked her.
she wrote another word down, and then she looked up at him and blew her hair out of her face.
her blue eyes were bright, and neville always wondered how she still kept her optimism in today’s world.
“soon,” she told him airily, “i just have a few more things to do first.”
she surprised him by getting up and placing her parchment and quill aside.
for once, they were alone in the room of requirement. some students decided to sleep in their dormitories tonight, and ginny was patrolling the halls.
she walked toward him and gently grabbed his forearm. she traced some of the freckles on his arm with the pad of her index finger, and his face was burning.
“lu-luna, as much as i want this right now and have wanted it for so long, this probably isn’t the time.” he told her bravely.
he hated that he had to disappoint her. he wanted this more than anything.
she smiled softly as she looked up at him, and she cupped his cheek.
“i’m not disappointed,” she reassured him, “i know what you’re thinking. i just wanted you to know that i’m with you. i’m with you until the end.”
he grabbed her hand from his cheek and laced their fingers together.
he could feel her pulse against his, but unlike his, her’s was steady and calm.
“how do you do it?” he whispered, “how do you keep such a positive outlook throughout all this? how do you stay calm?”
she blinked a few times and looked down at their hands.
“because i have this, neville. because i have you.”
