Gluck+ Us
Many of us had met Peter Gluck during third year, but we still worried and wondered all week about how our Friday review would go. There were countless rumors about how tough he could be and how helpful his critiques were, so we spent most of our studio time working on our presentation and exercising our message into a trim and fit explanation.
When we weren’t working on all of our drawings, diagrams, and InDesign documents, we were on site! Jake and Nicole left us in a great position to continue finishing our kitchen before moving on to the other details in the house. After cleaning up as best as we could and avoiding all the mud puddles, we were able to prepare and purchase the supplies we needed for the countertops, cabinet hardware, and window trim (which we finished this week).
Our week concluded with Peter Gluck’s lecture, which comprised of a discussion around a series of short videos that his firm, Gluck+, had produced. Collectively, the videos critiqued and explained many facets of the field of architecture, the field of construction, the divide between them that exists currently, and their potentially beautiful balance that thrives at Gluck+. On Friday morning, we were nervous to follow Gluck’s astoundingly-concise videos with what we thought would be a less-than-spectacular and much-too-lengthy presentation of our project. But to our surprise and relief -- Gluck loved us! The design-build legend shared kind words of encouragement and left us with expressed excitement for our project’s trajectory.
