“EYES ON THE FUTURE”
by Peat Wollaeger
“The the EYEZ are the window to your SOUL,” says Peat Wollaeger, aka EYEZ, encouraging viewers of his work to wake up, and open theirs. When Wollaeger tired of climbing the ladder of Chicago advertising he and his family moved back home to St. Louis and he turned his attention to making a difference with his stencils and spray enamels. In 2012, for the third mural to be installed in the Carondelet neighborhood’s Murals on Broadway project, he painted the eyes of his then 9-year-old son expressing the idea of opening eyes to the future. He also says he intentionally chose this 100’ x 30’ corrugated steel building at 6300 Broadway so he could experiment with lenticular-style animation “like those toys you would get out of old Cracker Jack boxes that would animate when you moved them back and forth, but much larger.” Drive by in person and see if the eyes blink for you. @eyez
