I found this petit point brooch at the thrift store and it's not my style at all, but the hand embroidery is so teeny tiny that for just $3 CAD it was too interesting a crumb of textile history to pass up. The stitches are less than a millimetre!
No idea how old it is. The embroidery is done on a stiff layer of netting which is laid over top of a plain white fabric, and it says "made Austria" on the back.

Going through some things at my mom’s house and ran across what must be one of my earliest completed pieces. Done on aida with petit point stitching, I used hand dyed threads giving it sort of an antique look.

started my new embroidery project and I’m SO excited. There’s 56 stitches per inch and I’ve never worked on something this small before, but I love the amount of detail that’s possible while working in miniature. It’s going to take forever to stitch but I’m so excited to see what the final tapestry is going to look like!
Antique Petit Point Tapestry Purse. Very fine petit point tapestry handbag, appears to be hand-sewn outside and machine stitched on the inside lining. Gilded metal frame with some wear to the finish. Filigree ball clutch that snaps shut securely. Handle is an etched brass chain.
