- I’m intersex and I used to talk about it on here all the time. i strongly believe that there cannot be a movement for intersex liberation without transfeminism, and i have no patience for antifeminist, transmisogynistic intersex communities. you can read through my intersex tag to find some of my personal writing on intersex topics, and can check out @intersex-support for an archive of information about different intersex variations. Yesterday I read through the 94 page long report detailing Israel's deliberate and systematic destruction of childhood in Gaza. This is done through direct means (e.g. snipers targeting babies and children, the constant use of explosives in residential areas knowing they are more likely to kill children), through structural means (e.g. targeting infrastructure that children depend on such as pediatric hospitals, vaccination sites, schools, and orphanages), and through destroying the very foundations of children's dignity (e.g. desecrating children's spaces and belongings, and sexually humiliating them).

While I read this, I thought about my friend Ahmed. "Children in Gaza walk long, dangerous distances to fetch water due to the destruction of water and sanitation infrastructure, spending six to eight hours daily carrying heavy water loads, replacing school time with daily survival tasks." This has been Ahmed's life for years now. When the report describes the impact of malnutrition on children's bodies they are talking about his body.

In one section, the report states: "poor oral health makes it harder to eat and absorb nutrients, thus contributing to malnutrition." Ahmed (@ahmed-motaz) was born with a disability that impacts his teeth. He first started fundraising because he desperately needs expensive dental implants, which are unavailable in Gaza. It has been years and he has never saved enough to get this care, and his family can barely afford nutritious food. UNICEF ranks the Gaza Strip as “the most dangerous place in the world to be a child." These brutal conditions are even harder for disabled children. Please support Ahmed.

This comic is about my friend Fadel. He survived the bombing of his home over 800 days ago, and has still not raised enough money to get to a hospital where they can remove the shrapnel from him. Worse, he rarely has enough money to even afford his medications and supplements to treat his blood disorder and the effects of long-term malnutrition.

Without access to medication, Fadel suffers from severe anemia, which leads him to faint. His family finds him collapsed unconscious, and must go through new fear that he has died, over and over. He has been hospitalized many times this year.

Fadel needs Erythropoietin (EPO) injection, Desferal, Paracetamol, Vitamin C, Vitamin B12, and Folic Acid / Vitamin B9. @fadell-aldany can barely afford a portion of them. This costs about $800 currently. When his condition becomes so debilitating that he cannot bear the severity of his pain, he needs pain medication. Israel's blockades create extreme scarcity, and a single pill now costs $100. He tells me that he hasn't been able to obtain it for a long time. Please donate and offer him some relief.

to be honest not really! there were a lot of things happening at this time in my life last year that were super hard that are a lot easier now. And I’m honestly having a pretty lovely summer so far and a lot of parts of my life feel very meaningful rn. I love a lot of the harm reduction work I do rn and feel like I have actual community in the place where I live. which is a nice and new situation to be in!!

Fundraising on tumblr is survival. When tumblr deletes the blogs of people in Gaza, that is participation in genocide. It is unconscionable.

My friend Fadel's account has been banned again yesterday. He is extremely sad and exhausted at this treatment. Fadel's new blog is @fadell-aldany. Please follow him there and send him a message of encouragement. He has been on tumblr for years and has lost all of his connections.

He has been repeatedly hospitalized this month because his blood count is so low from going too long without his blood medication and proper nutrition. He desperately needs funds, and he cannot raise them if no one finds his blog. Fadel's campaign (gazavetters #197) is hosted by a friend of mine. I am texting with Fadel right now as I type this, and I personally can confirm that this new account is really him.

Please help him find his previous followers!

Fadel really needs donations to be able to afford the cost of his healthcare. Every time he cannot raise enough there are ripple effects and life becomes harder, more painful, and more costly. When there's not enough for his monthly blood medication, he's had to go without, and now he needs his medication and treatment for severe anemia from going without his medication. 2. if i were to write a book about disability...i think it would probably be about like disability, incarceration/institutionalization, and disabled resistance. that's what most of my essays/zines are about these days lol. i feel very inspired by disabled organizing and ways that disabled ppl are taking down institutions and jails and surviving those spaces and think that a lot of the strategies developed and ways we care for each other inside those places are like. also what we need to be doing on the outside. but tbh i feel like i get a new specific disability topic interest every year so i feel like this is something that would be different in every era of my life.

9. Is there a disability related topic that you wish people would talk about more?

yes!!! my two topics i've really been thinking about and wishing more people were talking about lately are like. broadly connected to the reality of disablement through state violence. specifically, i've been thinking a lot about experiences of disability when your disability is caused or exacerbated by incarceration, and experiences with disability when your disability is caused or exacerbated by homelessness. have been thinking a lot about how most of the other wheelchair users i see on public transit in my city are homeless and the very specific types of ableism they face + specific kinds of stigma in my city that get attached to being a wheelchair user because of the association with xylazine use. and just sort of thinking a lot about disabled solidarity and disabled solidarity with people who might not label themselves or their communities as disabled. and what that might look like. and wanting to talk more about this with other people.

ooooh so many things. i'm just going to start naming anything that comes to mind.

Storming Bedlam by Sasha Warren (super great book about history of psychiatries and antipsychiatries.)

i'm really looking forward to watching the documentary (not released yet) "The Fish Don't Care When It Rains" by Jennifer Msumba, who's a survivor of the Judge Rotenberg Center.

brilliant imperfection: grappling with Cure by Eli Clare is like my number one fav disability book.

code of the freaks(2020) was a really interesting documentary about disability representation in film and how that connects to the legacy of freak shows.

a million more things i could recommend if i looked at my bookshelf or reading list but those are a few things that randomly come to mind!

#4 (Is there any popular disability theory that you disagree with?) for the disability ask game!

(doing this ask game a month late because i forgot about it when i first reblogged it).

not a specific theory, but there are a lot of parts of disability studies (as a academic movement) that i really struggle with. there's a lot of beautiful literature and scholarship coming out of disability studies academia, but I also really struggle with the unwillingness in a lot of disability studies spaces to recognize the need for plain language and easy read translation of dense academic theory. i think a lot of disability studies theory is not at all accessible to intellectually disabled people and that doesn't need to be the case! there are so many way to make theory accessible and it makes me mad that disability studies academia largely seems uninterested in that.
