"Betrayal." That's how young people around the world are describing our governments' failure to cut carbon emissions. And it's no surprise. We are catastrophically far from the crucial goal of 1.5°C, and yet governments everywhere are still accelerating the crisis, spending billions on fossil fuels. This is not a drill. It's code red for the Earth. Millions will suffer as our planet is devastated - a terrifying future that will be created, or avoided, by the decisions you make. You have the power to decide.

Keep the precious goal of 1.5°C alive with immediate, drastic, annual emission reductions unlike anything the world has ever seen.  

End all fossil fuel investments, subsidies, and new projects immediately, and stop new exploration and extraction.

End creative carbon accounting by publishing total emissions for all consumption indices, supply chains, international aviation and shipping, and the burning of biomass.

Deliver the $100bn promised to the most vulnerable countries, with additional funds for climate disasters.

Enact climate policies that protect workers and the most vulnerable, and reduce all forms of inequality.

We can still do this. There is still time to avoid the worst consequences if we are prepared to change. It will take determined, visionary leadership. And it will take immense courage -- but know that when you rise, billions will be right behind you.

Citizens all over the world are struggling with mental health. Mental health is not taken as heavily as it should be. Social media has made mental health out to be a disorder that is shameful and unjustified. People suffering with, or who have, should never be taken lightly and we should be doing as...

I’m personally mentally ill as a result of multiple factors in my life and I feel like having more awareness would help more people be understanding abt people like myself, esp when making jokes w/ mentally ill ppl as the punchline. 

these joke can be very hurtful and upsetting. having more awareness can also help people understand mental health better, preventing misconceptions and stereotypes surrounding certain mental illnesses and disabilities.

What is WHOIS and how does it impact me? How do you fee …

Just when I thought institutions running the Internet are becoming more aware of the persistent problem of online harassment ICANN suggests this change, that would put many bloggers and writers at risk:

“The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is working on a program that would create new restrictions on the companies offering WHOIS privacy services, or “Providers.”  Under the proposed new rules, Providers would be required to monitor your use of domain names and websites.  Providers could be forced to terminate your privacy service and be required to publish your contact data in WHOIS.  Likewise, Providers could be required to give your private contact details to anyone complaining that your website violates their trademark or copyright.  None of these scenarios would require a court order, search warrant, or due process of any kind.”

I got cancer as a firefighter – now the government won't help

My name is Jock McLeod. I've been a firefighter here in the Territory for the last 47 years – and now I'm fighting a deadly cancer.

During my operational service I put my life on the line for years – being exposed to harsh conditions and many carcinogens, to protect our community. I'm proud of everything our team or firefighters have done. But now I need your help. 

I've been diagnosed with cancer, and just learned that the NT Government are refusing to help us firefighters who are getting sick with cancer as a result of exposure to carcinogens all these years.

Federal Firefighters, South Australia, WA and Tasmania are all covered by new laws that gives workers compensation to firefighters who get cancer directly related to exposures during service. But Northern Territory Firefighters like me are not covered – and the government has rejected a bill that would have given us better protections.

Instead, NT firefighters like me battling cancer caused by exposures during our service are left struggling to pay for costly chemotherapy and cancer care.

We need the better access to workers compensation that other states have introduced, through presumptive legislation in the Northern Territory. And we need it now. 

When passing this legislation through the Australian Senate in 2011, the senate committee acknowledged “this is not a new entitlement, rather it is remedying a lack of support for those who perhaps are most deserving.”

Please help us Firefighters win this protection. My family and all us firefighters would be so thankful for your support.
