Boscobel House where Charles II found refuge following his defeat at the battle of Worcester & home to (a descendent) of the "Royal Oak" where he hid from his pursuers. What was once the Augustian Abbey of St Mary of the Meadows dating from the 12th century, an imposing structure in its day. Reputed to be the original grave site of Cardinal Wolsey who died en route to London to face his trial for treason. The engraving on the memorial stone beseeches is to "GIVE HIM A LITTLE EARTH FOR CHARITY".
