The Murder of Cara Knott
Cara Evelyn Knott was a 20-year-old American student at San Diego State University. On 27th December 1986, Cara was driving from her boyfriend's home to her parents home when a police officer directed her to pull onto an isolated, off-ramp. The officer who asked Cara to stop her car was Craig Allen Peyer. It was found that Peyer had been targetting multiple women along the interstate and attempting to ask them on dates. It is thought that Cara threatened to report Peyer which angered him. He attempted to grab Cara who scratched at his face and tried to get away. Peyer then bludgeoned Cara with his flashlight before strangling her to death with a rope and throwing her over the edge of a bridge. Multiple women came forward to testify that Peyer had pulled them over and made them feel uncomfortable. Peyer was also seen with scratches on his face and a fabric fibre found on Cara's dress matched a shoulder patch Peyer had been wearing on his uniform. Cara's blood, a rare AB type, was found on Peyer's boot. Peyer was sentenced to life imprisonment.
