Please renew Andimack
Ok so by this point everyone’s ranted & my brains on haywire from the hiatus but I’m gonna talk about it anyways. I am 15 years old so my days of watching Disney Channel had been long over by the time Andimack came out. We had/have no cable so I discovered the show late and only a couple months ago did I find a way to watch the full episodes rather than just clips. This show is so amazing because you can connect with at least one character and I happen to share something with almost all the characters (here’s my story-feel free to skip: like Andi I was born through my moms teen pregnancy, like Cyrus I’m part of the lgbt community, like Amber I come from a broken family, like Jonah I have panic attacks because I have an anxiety disorder, like TJ I started out not all that great and developed into a better person, these are only a few examples) when I was younger I didn’t have figures I could relate to on these things and I had never felt so alone. I thought my mom being so young was weird and something to be ashamed of, I didn’t understand being gay until I found other sources of education, I thought my family fought because of me (I was born from a different father while the rest are my stepdads actual children), I thought not being able to breathe and sobbing in the corner of my room was normal, I believed for so long “I’m a bitch, but it doesn’t matter because once you’re a bitch you don’t get to change.” I actually handled these situations on my own for the most part but I only recently came to terms with all of those thing at about 14. DO NOT LET YOUR CHILDREN FEEL LIKE THEY ARE ALONE, STRANGE, AND A PROBLEM FOR 14+ YEARS OF THEIR LIFE. If I had Andimack I would’ve been in so much of a better place, even if I hadn’t figured everything out, and even if it remained difficult I would’ve had a safe thing to turn to because chances are parents either don’t provide that for their child or the child is scared as was my situation. Please Disney, you did so well to air this show for as long as you have but if you don’t renew it and you refuse to portray these issues in any other show what you are suggesting is that it’s okay to remove the voice of the minority; I beg you do not do that to our children, there are so many outlets in society already telling them that.
