Front Crawl // Faye and Rufus
With his head under water, Rufus's arms cut through the liquid surrounding him at a fast pace- pushing himself forward. Left arm. Right arm. Left arm. Right arm. After a number of seconds, Rufus was forced to throw his head back, taking sharp yet shaking breaths. Again, his head dived so that it was under the depths, holding his breath. Only able to see aqua through sore eyes.
When it almost seemed too soon, Rufus reached the end of the pool, having finished another lap. He'd lost count of the amount he'd done within that day. Only judging it by his own critique and determination to do well. He assumed that it had been many, as he was now feeling rather fatigue. Deciding that it would be foolish of him to do any more just yet, when he was feeling so worn out, Rufus lifted himself on to the pool-side, so that only his feet came into contact with the water.
Rufus loved sports, along with keeping fit. He always had. It had been a natural love of his; one that hadn't needed to be encouraged by his parents. They were always more intent on making him succeed in purely intellectual topics. But over the past couple of months, Rufus had been trying to pick up more and more sports- more activities to challenge his stamina. Swimming had been his recent favourite, and he'd found himself at the pool at least once every few days. He'd never consider doing it competitively; but it seemed a good past time for him.
As he over looked the stretch of the pool, he noticed a figure walk by him. He could hear their footsteps on the stone floor behind him; ones that always seemed echoed by the puddles water that managed to escape the pool itself. Hardly thinking as he looked up, and not expecting to recognise the face before him, Rufus saw that it was Faye. He'd spoken to her only a few times, but he could remember that she, too, loved exercise. More than him, it seemed. And when he'd been looking for someone to join him on the occasion, she'd suggested that they could exercise together. A nice idea, but the two hadn't spoken since then. "Faye?" He asked, cocking an eyebrow as he rose to his feet to greet her. "Hi, I'm Rufus. You might not remember me, actually...We've only spoken once. But I remember you mentioned that you like to come here." With his last words, Rufus made a gesture towards the pool, before letting his gaze return to Faye, an inviting smile pulling at his lips.
