ignore how late i am to this trend LOL but it needed a gone series one
the funny thing about orc x astrid is that it lowkey fits the corny bad guy/good girl trope but it works because orc is the one who's fully invested in the dynamic and is like "astrid you can fix me 🥺" and astrid is like "what? i don't want to do that 😒"
Gone series as Onion headlines
I wish the GONE series was as big as the hunger games because it's so peak and all you YA dystopia ppl would adore this book series.
So, I’ve started rereading the Gone series (by Micheal Grant). It’s a series that’s significant to me in a number of ways. This series is responsible for kickstarting my love of horror (although I didn’t recognize it as horror when i first read it). These books were my first introduction to body horror, and I DEVOURED the blood and gore.
Not to mention the series containing my favorite example of one of my all time favorite media tropes. (Brittney Donegal, a character introduced in book two, will always be the forefront example in my mind of a character who dies and comes back wrong.)
The theme of faith (particularly Christian faith) (particularly loss of faith) was also INCREDIBLY significant to me as someone who was actively deconstructing my religious beliefs as a young tween. The series also contains the first positive queer rep I had ever encountered (as a very, very sheltered child). Published in the late 2000’s-early 2010’s, Grant specifically went out of his way to avoid the Bury Your Gays trope, which was extremely meaningful to me.
There are definitely aspects of the series that haven’t aged as well, though… but I’ll cross those bridges when I get there.
I’ll most likely be posting thoughts/analysis stuff here as I work my way through the series :)
