“Your scientific knowledge is currently unparalleled by anyone else in this base. Whatever personal shortcomings you may possess are far outweighed by that simple fact. It would take more than a few long silences to destroy the faith I have in you and your abilities.”
He frowned. “This does not, however, mean that you do not have to submit regular reports. I expect a full overview of your current projects in my office in no more than four cycles.”
For a moment Skyfire merely stared down at his servos, hesitant. In recent times, his shortcomings seemed to be all that anyone cared about. The countless failed experiments to make their lives just that much more simple, to bring them closer to returning home, they were all that anyone could see. To him, it was all the proof he needed that he was a failure.
“I truly appreciate your honesty, commander,” he said quietly. “If not for faith like yours, I surely would have dropped my ambitions countless millennia ago. But--oh! Reports, yes. I... I knew I was forgetting something. One moment, I actually have them completed. Unless, well. You would like them actually submitted to your office?”
