Lightly built and slender, Pegasus does not at all look like the toughest of A.Is -- this, he is grateful for. Curly brown hair tumbles from his head, often threatening to disturb the vision of friendly green eyes. He has a habit of ruffling or gripping at said hair when stressed. Quick to smile, but he's torn between being self-conscious and proud of that one crooked tooth of his - why in the world would an imperfection of the teeth be included in the design of a robot? Well...at least it's unique?
Long arms with strong hands are joined to narrow shoulders, and he has a certain tendency to tie pieces of string around his wrists, removing them before engaging in any type of training or combat. Also, pointlessly thin legs.
Team: Delta Gamma
Agent:
Annapolis [removed 17.10.2538]
Lincoln [not yet implanted]
Attributes: Amicable/Careless
Restoration History:
Repaired holes and minor circuit damage in neck
Repaired injuries sustained after attack on the Equinox:
Prone to becoming anxious, has been irritable and uncharacteristically moody as of late, quite emotional and irrational
His peaceful nature is a big part of his personality and behaviour.
Cattell's 16 Factor test results
Strengths/Weaknesses:
His peaceful nature enables him to function as a decent mediator in times of conflict. As he is open-minded and likely to strive to protect either party, he is good at looking at an issue objectively in order to help secure peace and mutual contentment between the opposing sides.
Ever optimistic, Pegasus is quick to see the good in people and situations. In fact, he’ll strive to find the good in people and situations. Very forgiving, and does not hold grudges. Quick to accept people and ideas, and to tolerate those he does not agree with.
Too trusting. Quite gullible, and does not place as much value on the pursuit and attainment of knowledge as many other A.I. He does not think critically quite often enough - in fact, he is critical of very few things. Any curiosity of his is not motivated by desire for knowledge, but for experience - especially if it’ll be fun.
Pegasus is not exactly the owner of a strong will. He’s quite sensitive and a lot of the time, he has no idea what to do with that. He is easily overwhelmed and prone to panicking and/or becoming anxious in times of distress.
A lot of his actions are motivated by desire, but there is often something holding him back - in his control or not. (eg. his own fear stopped him from endeavouring to strengthen his relationship with Annapolis). Said desire is more often than not related to happiness or enjoyment.
Has a patronising streak, as well as slight and internalised feelings of superiority. However, these are not born of malice — rather of pity, or of the ‘big brotherly’ side of his nature.
Dislikes: conflict, danger, unfairness, insensitivity, narrow-mindedness, dishonesty, fighting, hurting others, betrayal, lack of empathy, restrictive rules, lack of freedom
Miscellaneous:
He’d prefer not to use weapons at all, but he did prefer the Needler to anything else. Due to bad experiences with both the Needler and the Chest Cannon, however, he is most likely to resort to the machine gun.
He almost always trains alone.
He doesn’t believe in bottling or hiding emotions. He believes in controlling them, but they don’t need to be hidden. He tries to control his emotions if they’re potentially harmful — but he never denies or suppresses their existence. He absorbs them, really, always learning from them as they etch themselves into his character. Its like a painting — new brushstrokes and colours are added to a canvas as time goes on. Some are layered, some are shaky, some are bold and some are weak but they all come together. Only the artist has full control of them.
On a similar note with a similar artistic metaphor, Pegasus, as the hopeful-slash-cheerful-slash-optimistic A.I he is, is often happy. But here’s the painting again. He’s happy in the details, in the splashes of colour and shades and lights. But if you look at the big picture, the reality of it all? There’s not as much to be happy about. He believes he’s happy because he doesn’t know any better. Imagine a horizontal line. On the left extreme of the line, we have emotions he’s familiar with, such as fear, disappointment, guilt. On the right extreme, we have ‘true happiness’. A little past the middle and to the right, we’ve got Pegasus’ default happiness - perceived happiness. This is the default. This is what he defines as happiness, but it’s not what we - as humans, who know better - would define as happiness. Here is a mind-map on this subject.
Headcanons:
Pegasus is drawn to emotional intensity. Those who show little to no emotion cause him a sort of frustration. Furthermore, he has huge amounts of trouble identifying emotions in himself that are not intense or obvious.
He would really like a tattoo - he likes the idea of decoration, of customisation and making something his own. Perhaps art and colour can redeem his body a little, give him a reason not to hate it as much.
If he was able to, he’d really like to experience the short term effects of recreational drugs - he’s most interested in hallucinogens.
He really likes the movie Grease, but he has no clue what’s going on in that film, no understanding of the storyline after about the twenty minute mark, or why those boys walk like that — but he likes the music and the dancing, though ridiculous, is adorable.
Participants: Rachel Spears.
Setting: The W Suite, Times Square, New York.
Time: September 8th, 2013 at 12:00PM.
"Miss Spears? There's a delivery waiting for you at reception." Came a polite female voice, "Would you like us to send it up?"
Without thinking twice about what the item could be, Rachel agreed to it. "Sure, thank you." Hanging up then, she ran back into the bathroom. Her hair was sitting in dipped waves, her make-up half done. She was heading to lunch with a fellow model, one of whom she hadn't caught up with since her last visit to the city. As such, an unexpeced parcel was the last thing on her mind right now.
Right on cue, a member of staff was knocking on the door of her suite. "Miss Spears?" Slipping into a pair of Louboutins, Rachel was quick in greeting her. "Thank you, Sandra." The model smiled, taking the bouquet out of her hands. It wasn't a rare occurence; she received flowers and gifts on a regular basis, but these flowers were different. When she was left alone, Rachel walked slowly into her bedroom. The roses were black, not red or yellow or white, nothing like what she was used to. On closer inspection, she noticed something far more peculiar. They were dead. Opening up the note that was stuck right in their centre, she felt her hand shake.
Inside, the words were inscribed in crimson red ink:
Dearest Rachel,
I can't begin to tell you how much I miss you, darling.
You looked so beautiful at the premiere last night; I was there, watching, waiting. But, you didn't see me. Perhaps, now isn't the right time. You know I don't like it when you test my patience, but my.. you were captivating. My beautiful girl, so, so beautiful.
For now, seek comfort in the knowledge that you will see me again.
'I don't know where, I don't know when, but I know we'll meet again some sunny day'.
Yours,
Caleb.
Everything was still, silent, but in her head, Rachel was spinning. She felt dizzy, as if she couldn't stand, as if she could no longer hold her own weight in the world. Dropping the bouqet, she backed herself into the closet, falling over another pair of heels. He had found her again. He'd been in her company and she hadn't even known. "Oh God.." She whispered, over and over again, the very memory of him haunting her. She didn't know what to do, who to call. If he was after her, she wasn't willing to put anyone else in danger. Reaching for her cell phone, she let out several shaky breaths, curling her knees up to her chest. "C-Carly," The model began, "S-Something's came up. I can't make it to lucnch today, but we'll get together soon. I promise." Hanging up then, she threw her cell phone across the room, dropping her head to her knees. Her relationship with Caleb was far from over. It was a nightmare replaying.

History:
In reality, although Annapolis had chosen to forget her past and leave the remnants of Earth and family behind, her drive is behind her father. Recruited during Earth’s times of turmoil, her father spent years away from their home in Sweden. With no trace of communication from him, both Annapolis and her mother thought him to be dead. So when he stumbled in, battered and broken ten years later, Annapolis found that she could never forgive him, or the mistake he had made. On and on her father rambled about his comrades, haunted because he had let them die in order to complete his final mission. She found out that he had faked his death and returned as a refugee because of this. Due to her father’s fatal mistakes, Annapolis found herself disgusted, declaring that she’d join the battle but never make her father’s mistakes, right in front of his face. Ever since then her rigorous studying and physical training brought her up to speed, with the purpose of being a better soldier than her father pushing her.
Personality:
Agent Annapolis is a hardworking, by-the-book woman. She has embraced the Freelancer protocol with open arms and has adhered to each and every one of its rules. Breaching of any of these regulations is nearly not acceptable in her mind. Her former work as an agent has chiseled her into a hardened soldier that, although understands boundaries, dares to push them. Though loyal to the Project and its enigmatic Director, Annapolis has a strong sense of teamwork. She knows remorse well and will stand by her squad; however, one will find that she is still cold and calculating. If there’s any command she wouldn’t follow, it would be that of abandoning her comrades. She excels on her own but chooses to function in the dynamic of her squad, knowing that it’s them that will have her back in the long run.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths: Annapolis is a keen observer and can calculate her comrades’ pros and cons, allowing for her to function in the team as proficiently as possible; her long range weapon use is almost always on target and is her primary specialty, though with her past training, her close combat has greatly improved; her on-the-spot thinking is extremely advanced, and she always does better under pressure.
Weaknesses: She’s very standoffish when it comes to even talking about breaking rules, and she’ll reprimand anyone planning to do so, even if it’s sneaking food; the trauma of the Al haunts her every day, and it will be awhile, even never, until she trusts them once again, sometimes she even has trouble following their instructions; though her physical combat has reached an advanced level, her sense of awareness is dulled, even more so since the breakdown of her Al, so Annapolis is very vulnerable to surprise attacks.
Likes/Dislikes:
Likes: The comfort of rules, watching the universe go by, cooperation, fighting solo despite wanting to function well in a team, strong drinks, training
Dislikes: Rule breakers, things that are too sweet, cats, her father’s mistakes, Als, out of tune instruments, lazy people
Miscellaneous:
Annapolis’s past name was Ingrid Gudmund
She falls into relationships, she doesn’t make them
Though it’s not the skill she’s most adept at, she has a passion for hand-to-hand combat
Headcanons:
Annapolis slightly questions the Project. Though she follows their rules to a T, the malfunctioning of her former Al has caused her to distrust the too perfect artificial lifeforms. Though she is strong and a bit callous on the outside, the incident has scarred her much more mentally than physically. She is racked with nightmares and she’ll never tell a soul .
During her wait to be reinstated as an Agent, despite her subconscious distrust (and fear) of the Al, Annapolis has been training rigorously. Half of it was to strengthen her weaknesses, such as the former one of her physical combat. The other half was to cope with the stress of the Al failure. She hopes to back and better than ever with the rehabilitation she’s gone through.
She knows that she would never leave a team member to die, but that doesn’t mean she won’t let them get hurt. Annapolis will save anyone who is on the brink of death, but if her comrades get hurt during a mission, she won’t be doubling back to assist them. The completion of the mission is the foremost goal, and besides, they should know what they signed up for.
Olympia grew up on Mars with her parents and one sister. Her parents, both working for -the UNSC—her father as a Marine and her mother as a factory manager. Her father wasn’t home very often, but her mother drilled her from a young age for excellence. It became a sort of competition between her and her younger sister, who could have better grades, more awards, more recognition. They grew bitter, angry at each other, and Olympia began to realize she wasn’t worth anything to her family unless she was the best of the best. This caused her to drift away from her parents, her mother in particular, furious that her mother wanted so much out of her and yet still obliging, still competing with her sister. The only reason she would stay at home was if her father was there, his stories about the stars and life as a Marine enraptured her. As soon as she could, Olympia left the family she felt had never appreciated her and joined the UNSC as a marine herself. Later, after a few years of service, she was approached for the Project. Happy to leave behind her previous life and family and be stripped of her past, Olympia accepted without a second thought.
Personality:
What Olympia doesn’t have in bulk, she tries to make up with brains. Knowledge and intelligence have always been things Olympia has held in high regard. At times, she can be quite philosophical about things, although for the most part she keeps to herself, preferring privacy to unneeded conversation. Quite the perfectionist, Olympia has a high standard of excellence that she would do almost anything to achieve. This has led her to be manipulative, doing whatever she can with the limited charm she has to get what she thinks the Freelancers need. She thinks she knows what’s best for her and the Freelancers, and is quite proud and can be stuck-up, but rarely voices her many opinions on the way things should be run, instead quietly watching from the sidelines. Although she’s never gone as far as blackmailing someone, there isn’t much Olympia wouldn’t do to complete a mission. She regards feelings and ‘touchy-feely’ people as stupid and unnecessary, in her mind, the only thing of importance is what you achieve, not who you are or how you feel. Olympia is quite proud of her stealth skills, but continues to push herself to her limits. Secretly, all Olympia wants is for her team leader and peers to be proud of her and think of her as indispensible.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Weakness: Olympia is arrogant and usually thinks she’s right. If someone questions her ideas, even if on the outside she’ll be accepting of criticism, inside she’ll be quite angry.
Weakness: The agent has trouble thinking what would be best for the team, and not just what would be best for her.
Strength: Olympia is smart and very, very driven towards excellence.
Strength: Olympia can be quite charming and gracious towards her peers in the Project when she wants to, and goes with the flow of the group for the most part.
Likes/Dislikes:
Likes: school, working, getting what she wants, cats, famous philosophers and thinkers, manuals, handbooks, intelligent people, people who appreciate her, not just her accomplishments, UNSC, space, stars.
Dislikes: disagreement, disappointment, failure, her family, stupidity, arrogance in others, cooperation, dogs, bad smells, whining.
Miscellaneous:
Olympia’s old name was Ruby Kang.
Her relationships with A.I.s are complicated. Olympia sees them as a threat to her future in the project, as perfect, infallible tools. The recent addition of Gemini has only added to her hostility towards the A.I.s
She is quite in awe of the older project members, such as Boston, and of course, the Director.
Weapon of choice: knife or silenced magnum
Headcanons:
-Olympia was that annoying kid in school, the grade-A student with the golden record. As such, she’s used to being disliked, and almost thrives on animosity, as it motivates her to work even harder.
-Even though she knows they’re a useless expense, Olympia has a soft spot for cats. If she ever retires, which she’s guessing she won’t, she always thought she’d have a small, independent cat. Their agility and near invisibility at times is something Olympia has always admired.
-Olympia’s new AI, Gemini, ticks her off. He has been taciturn and Olympia feels he isn’t being cooperative. She’s determined to make it work, however, and to triumph over this ‘stupid piece of coding’.
Armour Enhancement: Promethean Vision (see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c25x315bGG0)
Project Status: Implanted with Unit Hydra (traits: aggression/competitiveness)
HISTORY:
Along with her younger brother, Katherine Fisher was adopted into the presence of an entirely new family, and often questioned who exactly her real parents were. In fact, the sleepless nights due to her questionable past eventually taught her to be hard-headed and to withdraw from those around her in-case loss was a repetitive pattern in her life. At the age of fifteen, Kate had grown tired of the endless reminder that she couldn't quite relate to others and refused to realise exactly what she had. With only a bag slung over her shoulder, the ran away in attempt to find her original parents.
Perhaps going without her younger brother grew difficult for the girl, but self-determination was something she often relied on. Admittedly, it was questionable how well someone at such an age would be able to handle themselves, but Kate grew quick to her surroundings and used herself well in not only to steal, lie and cheat; but to survive. Eventually, fourteen years of travelling from place to place grew into an even larger opportunity when her constant running was shunned by the chance to join the UNSC. With the skills she possessed, her ambitions only heightened and when the Freelancer Project came into sight, she would never intend on looking back.
Only striving to be the best, it’s unfortunate that it can often be done in the wrong way. The girl is tough, there is no doubt about that, and with her risk-taking manner, you would only assume that she’d also hold the ability to do it without creating too much of an issue. There are many qualities to Atlanta that give off an image of impulse and apathy, however there is only so far the girl can go with a close-knit group. When it came to the project, discovering her abilities did hold some use to her determination. If the team are needing someone to do something fast and without doubt, Atlanta would easily step up to the plate, despite being reckless in some cases. The idea of working in a team is something Atlanta had to learn to deal with, being that her independence was what she consistently relied on throughout her life. Although, whenever the team get time to be themselves, Atlanta would be fairly reserved about past, realistic about the current, and questionable about the future.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strength: Atlanta is exceptionally quick-footed, being able to move from place to place swiftly and in any way possible. Her slim figure can maneuver into any spot with precision and silence, as if a cat to its prey.
Strength: Although many people would believe being reckless in a task would be somewhere close to stupidity, there is something about Atlanta's risk-taking attitude that can only improve a mission - even if it often puts herself in danger. Atlanta is ignorant to her own well-being, most commonly willing to be as reckless as possible if it enables the group to progress.
Weakness: Despite holding a good brain, Atlanta can lack logic in her procedure, and can often come across as extremely careless. After all, it’s only luck that managed to get her originally noticed by the Director.
Weakness: Atlanta can be unpredictable in her behaviour, whether that be during a task or outside of the project. Unpredictability is definitely a trait most would rather avoid when working as as team, for it can be a constant worry for those around her when it comes to making the next move..
Likes/Dislikes:
LIKES: being under pressure, anything with an engine, proving people wrong, the adrenaline rush of danger, having time to think/being alone, whiskey, intellectual conversations, old music, history, taking risks.
DISLIKES: ignorance, weakness, having to play nice, loss, feeling vulnerable, arrogance, sexism, being reminded of her past, vanity, pacifism.
MISCELLANEOUS:
Mother and Father: Unknown.
Adopted Parents: Alice and Jack Fisher
Younger brother: Charlie Fisher
Relationships with others: Atlanta prefers company of her own, rather than another. However, that doesn't necessarily mean friendships and such aren't doable.
Weapon of choice: Although she is often found carrying a Magnum, Atlanta enjoys testing those around her and chooses to opt for close range weapons such as the Energy Sword.
Headcanons:
Fear of showing a weakness to others, Atlanta often steers away from the group whenever she wishes to remind herself of her younger brother. When not through memory, a faded and crinkled picture is often found clasped between her scuffed fingertips.
In her late teens, Atlantas obsession with body art became more significant. The girl has several tattoos, the majority having some form of meaning to her.
Because of her feminine appearance, Atlanta always intended on breaking the truth of opinions and spent the majority of her younger years interested in fast bikes and fast cars. In fact, her high levels of interest in anything that was considered a 'male' stereotype eventually grew to be a curiosity for others around her, but her interests never navigated to romantic relations like many of her friends.
One of Atlanta's favourite foods is, in fact, peanuts. Unfortunately, past experiences have made her realise that peanut allergies are more common than expected.
Virgil has something of a thinner build, standing at 5’11 tall and only 140 pounds. He’s littered with far more freckles than he can count, most of which off-set the bright orange of his hair and the bright blue of his eyes. When sitting, his size is often reduced due to his preference to sit with his limbs close to his body.
Team: Beta
Agent.: Phoenix
Attributes: Equanimity/Meekness.
Restoration History: None
History:
Virgil was always a touch different from the other A.I.’s. Upon his creation, he passed all the regulated tests and was deemed fit to accompany an agent. In the experimental months that passed, irregularities began to show themselves in regards to his responses. It seemed that from what very little information Virgil was privy to during the testing period, he was gleaning as much as he could about human emotion. It wasn't long after he was exposed to other A.I.’s and a more in depth history of humans before initial signs of free thought began to manifest themselves.
He didn't show any obvious signs of rebellion though, and was ascertained to be benefiting of the Freelancer Project on the condition that he be partnered with someone who was equipped to handle him. His ability to adjust his cognitive functions was not something that had been discovered by the director, as it was only something Virgil himself picked up on a few months into the Project. He kept it to himself, not seeing the need to inform the Director as it was not something he put to use during his missions. He knew that it was a privilege that might very well be taken from him, and he rather liked being able to challenge himself.
Personality:
Virgil is occasionally childlike in a way that all A.I.’s are. Like children, they are unaware of basic societal norms and emotional etiquette. That is not to say Virgil is completely unobservant, he is, simply put, still learning.
He’s highly perceptive though, often watching how others interact with one another and applying it when the situation calls for it. He’s more restrained than most, often favoring the missions that have the least number of risks and violence, which can be beyond difficult when paired up with an Agent such as his. Virgil only attempts to be outspoken when the casualty risk of a mission seems too high, often opting to divulge his findings with someone more likely to listen to him and vocalize his standpoint.
When push comes to shove though, he is not afraid to take control in a disastrous situation and act with every intention to save not only the mission, but as many people as he can. He’s unafraid to sacrifice himself to save another, knowing that he does not feel pain and can simply be repaired or have his data inputted into another model.
He has a enthusiastic helper, often offering up his services whenever an agent or A.I. may need help with something. Helping is usually combined with a learning opportunity and Virgil is always eager for those. He's a highly curious A.I. and fairly easily excitable when given something to occupy his time.
Weaknesses:
A very prominent weakness that Virgil has is not being able to stop things from happening. Being slight in both determination and frame often leaves him without the ability to properly assert himself over a situation. He was not programmed to be a leader and lacks the basic skills that render him capable of speaking his mind. Regardless of how much time he spends observing Agent Phoenix, he still finds himself unable to articulate his worries.
He's quite unobservant of the concept of sarcasm, aware of what the term means but generally unable to discern when it is being used. His straightforward way of thinking doesn't often allow him to branch out.
Trouble differentiating between jokes, lies, and good-natured teasing, all things seeming to fall under one emotional umbrella for him.
Strengths:
Virgil possesses a natural knack for transmission. Due to his more passive “personality,” it’s easier for him to push through difficult mental barriers to properly relay important information. He has a talent for being able to communicate past conventional distances, often pushing his and his Agent’s limit farther than they thought possible. Considering Phoenix has 50 pounds on him, it’s usually the only way he can persuade him to do anything at all.
Virgil also has the ability to remain calm under any circumstance. Being equanimous gives him the ability to remain logical and balanced even when everything around him is falling to ruin. This would balance out Agent Phoenix’s ability to get somewhat caught up in the moment.
Another strength would be his ability to accept changes and new things. Emotions and new phrases and words were often things that confused him, but Virgil had a penchant for accepting new things and trying to work with them to the best of his ability.
Likes:
Puzzle games, human touch, people watching, smelling food, noisy atmospheres, idle conversation, the moment before transmissions, helping out, learning new concepts.
Dislikes:
Being called fragile, quiet, being alone, responsibility, dangerous missions, forgetting his manners, not having something explained to him, sensory deprivation.
Miscellaneous:
To be added to!
Headcanons:
Virgil often gets swept up in his Agent’s wiles and wishes, usually unable to properly form an argument just as to why exactly a particular excursion into the field would be dangerous and ill-advised. It wasn’t that he had trouble listing the statistics of the matter, it was just wording them with the correct amount of “human emotion” to actually make an impact that was the problem. Most cases usually involved him giving the argument up and following along out of concern rather than agreement. Curiosity regularly played a part in him giving in and exploring whatever it was that he was against in the first place. Just because he happened to be more submissive than a few of the other A.I.’s did not mean he wasn’t able to keep his composure during a stressful situation and act with a level head to avoid as many casualties as possible.
Virgil is someone that takes his emotions in stride. Having developed a sense for them at an early stage, he has had more time to grow accustomed to the rise of feelings like happiness or worry that developed within him. Empathy was his biggest hurdle, struggling to come to terms with the fact that he cared about other A.I.’s and Agents more for their personal safety as opposed to the success of the mission. It wasn’t to say his concern overrode his basic programming, but it was getting to be a near thing. He adapted at an alarming rate, cataloging new emotions and reactions each day and delighting in observing the humans around him.
Virgil seems to me like the type of A.I. that would be downright fascinated with human touch. It wasn’t that A.I.s weren’t fully equipped with all five senses, it was the slight differences that captured his interest. The fluctuating temperature, the unique patterns and markings on every person, they were all strange and different and something that Virgil wanted to explore. This sparked the emotion of “want,” leading him to realize that there were things he “wanted” purely for no other reason than he enjoyed them. Bring tactile wasn’t in his programming, but the more he observed friendly pats on the shoulders and firm handshakes, Virgil was taken with the notion of classifying all the physical differences that humans were born with.
Virgil's strongest emotional mimicry would probably have to be distressed, easily getting nervous or fluttery when another agent or A.I. is experiencing some sort of highly negative emotion. It sets him in a type of helplessly apologetic state, the feeling clashing with his helpful side and leaving him feeling rather useless.
Virgil is still fairly unsure of the entire concept of smiling, feeling a little out of sorts at his lack of understanding. His immediate response to seeing a smile is to offer one in return, but on the occasion that he smiles naturally, it surprises and fascinates him. Usually he'll spend quite a while after the fact analyzing just what he had been experience when his smile was set off.
Charleston has always thought of himself as rather average – with a tall, slim frame, dark hair usually tousled slightly, and nondescript, if vaguely angular, features, he’s never thought of himself as anything besides. He dresses accordingly, and as such, his sense of fashion is comfortable yet bland. He prefers long sleeve shirts that fit slightly big on him, which always manage to obfuscate his slim build, but Charleston usually has no such concerns himself.
Team:
A.I.: None
Specialization: Cryptography
Armor Enhancement: Capture unit (Is able to hold multiple AI’s in addition to other things, such as data and compressed energy)
History:
Having grown up in a large, extensive family, Agent Charleston was always used to a certain degree of anonymity. As a child, he often found himself passed over for things due to a combination of his own quiet nature and his siblings’ more flamboyant personalities, and it wasn’t until college that he hit his stride. Charleston had always performed well in school, but math courses were what he always excelled in, and during his first couple of years at college, he quickly discovered this. One thing led to another, and he graduated a semester early with a double major in math and computer sciences. A professor recommended him for graduate school, and Charleston went back and quickly earned two more degrees, this time focusing specifically on cryptography. Charleston worked for the federal government for a time before his feats caught the attention of the director, and when offered the job, enlisted with hardly a second thought.
Personality:
Charleston is an interesting agent with a personality perhaps more superficially inclined to accounting or record keeping than fighting. The first thing many notice about the young agent is his characteristic silence – while Charleston is always polite and more or less friendly to his comrades, he doesn’t go out of his way to socialize and can often be found by himself during his free time. When speaking with others in any depth, though, it becomes clear that socialization makes him uncomfortable and timid, and this perhaps makes him a bit of an easy target for others. Wishing to avoid confrontation, Charleston simply avoids these situations if at all possible.
As one of the youngest members of the team, Charleston feels he has to work extra hard to prove himself, and he makes sure to constantly practice his analytic skills and keep his knowledge up to date. During day to day life, he allows himself a set amount of time in order to perform cryptographic training exercises in addition to the standard, basic practices assigned to everyone. In stressful situations where he is allowed to use these skills, Charleston comes into his own slightly and is able to become more assertive and focused.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ Charleston is very smart and adaptable – he knows what to do with himself both on and off the battlefield. This quality is what made him appealing to the program in the first place.
+ Although not specifically assigned an A.I., he has displayed an aptitude and willingness for working with them. His logical thought process lends itself to an understanding of A.I. beings, and Charleston often finds himself working with them outside the battlefield.
- Charleston is not as proficient in combat as the other agents, partially due to his new status within the squad. He’s capable at a basic level, but in addition to the mandatory training exercises assigned to everyone, he is also required to participate in supplemental combat simulations.
- His socialization skills are lacking, although he does make a pointed effort to be polite when engaged in conversation. He often remains silent because he is afraid to say something offensive, rude, or presumptuous.
Likes/Dislikes:
Likes: Candy, patterns, computers, being alone, chicken pot pie, playing his guitar, banana milkshakes, watching dramas, short socks, solving puzzles, looking at pictures of old Earth cities, warm blankets, popcorn with chocolate
Dislikes: Working with large groups, being confronted, carbonated soda, peppers, tight clothing, hand to hand fighting, too many rules and regulations, competitions, large weapons, having crushes, olives and onions on his pizza, parties
Miscellaneous:
His past name was Thomas Aubrey, often shorted to just “Thom”
The scar on his jaw came about when one of his older brothers pushed him down the stairs when Charleston was only 12.
Prefers to work with smaller weapons, and at times has the potential to be half decent with sidearms.
Speaks with a stutter that has the potential to either get slightly better or moderately worse depending on his comfort level – it can be an accurate gauge of his state of mind
Headcanons:
- He’s secretly afraid of field work ever since Agent Carson’s death; Charleston is afraid he could very easily be next, and this hesitance results in him taking very little risk within the missions themselves.
- Charleston has a sweet tooth, will warm up more easily to anyone who offers him candy, and has a small stash that he keeps hidden (amassed from trading with the other agents).
- He’s never felt particularly close to his family, a fact which has always made him uncomfortable. Although he never disliked them by any means (with the exception of one brother), Charleston never felt like he had the connection with his family that others had.
- Charleston is neither closeted nor particularly open about it, but he does prefer men over women romantically. He’s never had any serious, long lasting relationships, however, for the same reason he finds it difficult to make friends.
- He becomes very uncomfortable when people mention or draw attention to his stuttering and general demeanor, as he was bullied when he was young about his speech habits. The habit was worse back then, and speech therapy managed to bring him where he is today, though Charleston still speaks with a noticeable stutter.
- During his free time, Charleston enjoys puzzles and puzzle games such as crosswords, sudokus, and brainteasers. He’s actually quite good at them, and goes through books relatively quickly. Before being recruited, he also enjoyed playing his guitar, although he couldn’t bring it with him – he does miss making music, as it was a great stress-reliever for him. He hardly, if ever, let people listen, though.
