But we must--to avoid 'solipsism of the present moment'--include in direct perception something more than presentational immediacy. For the organic theory the most primitive perception is 'feeling the body as functioning.' This is a feeling of the world in the past; it is the inheritance of the world as a complex of feeling; namely, it is the feeling of derived feelings. The later, sophisticated perception is 'feeling the contemporary world.' Even this presentational immediacy begins with sense presentation of the contemporary body. The body, however, is only a peculiarly intimate bit of the world. Just as Descartes said, 'this body is mine'; so he should have said, 'this actual world is mine.' My process of 'being myself' is my origination from my possession of the world.
Alfred North Whitehead, Process and Reality, Part II, Chapter II, Section VI
“What are you saying?” Yeden sputtered. “Skaa can’t be Mistborn. I’m not sure if Mistborn even exist! I’ve certainly never met one.”
Breeze raised an eyebrow, then laid a hand on Yeden’s shoulder. “You should try not to talk so much, friend,” he suggested. “You’ll sound far less stupid that way.”
The burns! Oh, the burns! Someone get some ice, this book needs to be encased in a glacier before the dry season gets here and the whole countryside goes up in flames!
Kelsier cocked an eyebrow. “Actually, Vin is something of a new recruit. My brother caught her Soothing his emotions a few months back.”
Ok, so Kelsier doesn’t quite get Vin’s mindset. She considers him, as the leader, someone you don’t cross or dispute, for one’s own safety. When he hadn’t revealed who she was, it never crossed her mind that he wouldn’t think it wasn’t her place to reveal what she could do to others, as she is just a crew member. He’s surprised the others don’t already know, that they haven’t heard from her. But dang, he’s excited also that he gets to be the one to deliver the one-two punch!
“Actually,” Kelsier noted, “it seems she can Riot people’s emotions as well.”
You bum. You’re such a nerd. I love you so much.
Also, who the heck is your brother, Kelsier?? So much mystery surrounding my son and he enjoys it way too much.
Kelsier turned, looking over toward Vin. “What about you, Vin?”
She paused. ‘Why is he asking me? He already knows he has a hold over me.’
Speaking of trust issues... my poor baby girl. He’s a decent human being, Vin! They’re real!!
The manga combined two entries, but here's what corresponds to today
All well.
