I want to encourage the streamers who are putting in the work playing and reviewing half-assed terrible games for half-assed terrible video game companies. I know you hate those games you have to hype up and pretend to be scared by stupid jump scares. I know you have to write your own dialogue because there is nothing interesting or fun or cool about most of those awful "games". And you are probably doing it just to put food on the table or get your channel started.
But here's the thing. Your audience doesn't care. Your audience is children. And they just like to watch you have fun and to live vicariously through you. You are the cool people they look up to and the entertainers who make them laugh.
My kiddo is chronically ill and basically bed ridden. She watches so many of those videos and laughs and smiles along with you. Those videos make up a huge portion of the life she lives through her phone much of the day. And significantly contribute to her quality of life.
That's right. Your minor channel makes her life better and all your viewers' lives better. It might not cure cancer. It might not feel like success. It might have felt like shit work at the time. But you are creating something that brightens a lot of kids days, and that is not worthless in this world we share.
When eating out with kids, ask the waitstaff to bring half-full glasses for your kids.
The center of gravity is much lower and it will be so much harder to tip over. Only fill halfway because those glasses are so tall with narrower bottoms.
All that weight up top from that soda tips that cup over at the slightest bump or misplacement.
You will enjoy your dinner so much more without spill maintenance. (that is a real job during dinner time you and your partner will take turns doing while the other can eat if you ever have kids no matter how well-behaved and careful they are.)
Children are just too clumsy and weak to handle full-sized glasses.
Bonus! Your kids will drink less soda and get less hyper on sugar. They still get free refills but waiting for the waitstaff will encourage them to nurse their drinks more.
All four gospels witness to Mary Magdalene as the premier witness to the resurrection - alone or in a group, but in all cases named by name. . . All four gospels insist that when the other disciples are fleeing, Mary Magdalene stands firm. She does not run, she does not betray or lie about her commitment, she witnesses. But why, one wonders, do the Holy Week liturgies tell and re-tell Peter's threefold denial of Jesus, while the steady, unwavering witness of Magdalene is not even noticed? How would our understanding of the Paschal Mystery change if [the role of Magdalene was acknowledged?] What if, instead of emphasizing that Jesus died alone and rejected, we reinforced that one stood by him and did not leave? For surely this other story is as deeply and truly there in the scripture as is the first. How would this change the emotional timbre of the day? How would it affect our feelings about ourselves? About the place of women in the church? About the nature of redemptive love?
