Sometimes considered a subspecies of the Great Cormorant, these birds are found along the coasts of western and southern Africa and inland in eastern Africa. They mostly eat fish, along with some crustaceans and frogs, diving to capture their prey. Nesting singly or in small colonies on man-made structures or islands, rocks, and cliffs near water, pairs take turns incubating the eggs. Both parents feed the chicks, which don’t reach breeding age for three to five years.
