Digital art journal for me today for my flowerscape. Check out the root system on the #Vanda orchid in the first photo. Wow! The second photo is some kind of #oncidiumsharrybaby (the flowers smell like chocolate). The third photo is of a whole bunch of #phalaenopsisorchids !! Thank you @chicagobotanic for putting on such a wonderful show. My first trip to the orchid show was in 2019, and I thought I was an orchid killer. Now I grow orchids. I started growing them in 2020. They mean so much to me because they are what got me through Covid-19 lockdown. It was so therapeutic to walk around my living room and have them in my house to look at, observe and grow. I loved returning to the show for my second visit in 2022. I wasn’t as overwhelmed by the orchids this time, the way I was in 2019. I was the woman behind the DSLR snapping the photos this year. It was so cool! Photography is new to me. I liked knowing about what I was photographing. It’s neat to see a hobby evolve over time and grow into a new hobby. I went from an alleged orchid killer in 2019 to being an orchid grower newbie in 2020 to an orchid (and aroid) collector in 2021, and then developed into a licensed nursery dealer/grower, and now newbie photographer in 2022 photographing orchids. It’s neat to see the cycle of a new hobby repeating itself with photography! Today, I was able to see beyond the plants and their beauty, and see them as pieces I can use in my art through photography. #natureisart for sure! I am no longer an orchid killer! Neither are you!
