Valerie woke up to the sound of her father rapping his knuckles on her door. She sat up, her hair disheveled and her eyes drooping from the early hour. It was barely 4 in the morning, which was when the father-daughter duo regularly woke up to take care of the shop before it opened and Valerie went off to school.
The brunette wen through her everyday motions. Shower, brush her teeth, makeup, check on Toby, set out his clothes, finish her hair, get dressed, all before the world woke up. She yawned, fixing the hairpin in her hair as she walked downstairs to the shop, pulling on her apron and getting to work helping her father get the shop cleaned up and presentable. She spent a good portion of her morning wrapping bouquets for the day, watering potted plants and clipping the stems of various different plants. When she checked the time, she quickly pulled off her apron, kissing her father on the cheek just as Toby came barreling down the stairs. She took her younger brother’s hand waving to their dad as they headed off for school.
Her day was like every other day, sitting through all her classes, taking notes like the devoted student she was, attending her ballet classes after school, before picking her brother up from school and walking home. Today however, She decided to go check out the bookstore down the street, to see if any new books had arrived. So, she dropped her brother off at home, informed her father of where she was going and grabbing her purse.
When she reached the bookstore, she gently pushed the door open, immediately feeling at home when the smell of ink and paper filled her nose. That new book smell was one of her favorite. She glanced around, noticing a few straggling customers, as she walked between the shelves, pulling out books here and there. She pulled out one of the books and leaned against the shelf behind her, careful to check that it wouldn’t fall over before she did. She cracked the book open, her eyes scanning over the words as she read a bit, to distracted by it to notice her surroundings.
