"Being broke at 30 gives a nigga the chills" -Christopher Wallace "Being broken at 40 is even worse" - Shawn William "Grown man bars" are showing the world there are a lot of broken black men out in these streets that are breaking up homes vows, breaking women mentally while also on the verge of having nervous breakdowns. Imo if you are a black man over 35 & these 5 albums are not considered great to you then: 1. You were raised correctly, have a strong support system & didn't get caught up in toxic masculinity and can't relate. (Congratulations) or 2. You're in denial & are part of the problem (Seek help) Ladies the albums posted below are men's version of "My Life" by Mary J. Blige "The MisEducation of...." by Lauryn Hill, "Lemonade" by Beyonce & any song by Keisha Cole when she's yodeling, but the difference is you received these messages in your 20s while a lot of us men are hearing them in our late 30s & early 40s because we were too busy glamourizing money, cash ho's raps or conscious rap that taught us how to love our people but not how to love ourselves. A woman in her 20s learning about depression, broken hearts & self love is more likely to live a more productive life than a 30-40 something year old black man getting a crash course of mental illness & depression. "30 year old women go to Cancun, 40 year old men go to cans of beers" - Said in a barbershop These 5 albums are just a small glimpse of what black men in their 30s & 40s are going through. Divorced, children out of wedlock, being devalued, health problems, money problems, not living out your dreams, depressed & to top it off not having an outlet to discuss these problems. Ladies, I challenge you to listen to these 5 albums with your husband, boyfriend, brother, sons or father if they're over 35 years old. Don't talk about beats & bars but about the emotions felt. Ask if they can relate to anything. You might find out a lot, or it might confirm something you assumed for a while. I'm asking you to do this because many women date older black men because they SEEM to have their stuff together than the men your age when in reality he's broken inside & just as problematic.
