Many people associate lighthouses with maddening solitude and loneliness, but if you lived and worked in this, the Pharos Lighthouse in Fleetwood, you could pop down to the pub or the shops on a regular basis.

An old-style lamppost in a garden in Fleetwood. It is good to see such things preserved. I had forgotten where I took this picture, but the lighthouse in the background gave me a clue.

When you are standing beside the Pharos lighthouse you have arrived at the Port of Entry for Universal’s Islands of Adventure.
